Just finished the mines. Kind of shocked the game hasn't actually started yet!

Combat is...interesting so far. I'm hoping it'll expand quite a bit, because right now it seems like a lousy time if the enemtly gets too far away.

I realize it's silly to ask this at the prologue, but any fast travel later?

I don't think there was, but the way the game is set up it's not that big a necessity either way. Most of the time you can't even go back to previous areas.

You playing on PC or PSP?

That stops being much of a problem later. Soon, even.

At the moment though, arts have unlimited range so provided you have the EP, you can use them instead of chasing to get into melee range. Later you'll get more arts, as well as crafts that can deal with most range issues. As well as movement/range upgrades in general. That said, in 99.9% of cases you can go into tactics to set your starting positions to be right on the front lines as well without concern.

Nope. Trails in the Sky has no quick travel. It can be a bit inconvenient at times but usually the areas you have access to are fairly small in the grand scheme of things and fairly early on you'll be able to prevent enemies from noticing you on the field so dodging them becomes trivial as long as you don't run into them yourself.

Um. On Steam I think there should be an option to launch the configuration tool. Can't check right now. If GOG I'm not totally sure but the option has to be there somewhere.

on GoG its a separate executable in the folder called launch settings or options or something.

Technically should be for steam too (steam launcher just has the option to open it, should still be there)

Also if you want voice acting there is a patch for Japanese voices. I don't recommend the Vita art patch though because the art is worse in most peoples opinions.

Got some more time in. Missed a job deadline and it killed a lot of perfectionist motivation :/

Just finished the second tower (optional?) and am about to head to the village after Bose.

I find myself wishing for a drop down menu in battles.

you would have to be pretty nutty to be a completionist with Trails.

the quests have different point values depending on how you complete them and there isn't really any way to tell if you're doing it right and getting the best outcome without being tethered to a guide (though that's if you want the reward for max points too, you pretty much get the top ranking just by doing all the quests without worrying about points).

Well the quests generally make it pretty clear if you say something wrong or fuck up.

they have durations for a reason. if it's short, do it immediately

FC and SC are the only games I've played in a long time where I used a walkthrough, because I can definitely be kind of a completionist and they're too long to consider playing over again after a first unassisted playthrough. I think it'd be almost impossible to max out BP without some guidance.

FC is arguably the meanest in terms of completionist without a guide. All the others (that were localized at least) can be done so long as you're super thorough about checking in on NPCs everywhere all the time. Which is still kind of crazy but also my kind of crazy. >_>

FC though can be a bit cruel. So I don't know if it helps but if you weren't using a guide you were probably doomed in terms of 100% from the start. >_>

The first time the game even mentioned that Ravennue village existed, the quest that required me to go to Ravennue and talk to the elder to activate it had already expired. That's just bad design!

Oh. That quest.

There's a reason for that. By the time the plot makes you go there, Agate has been through there and did it. I mean, you're not the only bracer! You also were free to head to Ravennue on your own before the game made you for the main story. It's the game's way of occasionally rewarding you for exploring and taking your own initiative.

(Also, if you are trying to literally claim the game never said that, you could have checked the road signs. Even inside the city it almost certainly mentioned it. And I highly doubt it isn't mentioned in NPC chatter. Main story, probably, but again, yeah.)

If a quest duration is short it basically means it will expire the next time the plot advances. If it's medium you can probably advance it but you better be careful. If it's long you can probably not worry for a while.

Probably the time to mention that I never, under any circumstance, talk to non critical NPCs in villages and such in any RPG.

Seems like that's going to be an issue with this series. That's why Tokyo Xanadu's contact book was so relieving!

Oh. Then yeah, you were always going to miss hidden quests. They almost always require talking to an NPC who happens to be the quest giver with little-to-no indication otherwise.

Which was true in Tokyo Xanadu too. <_<

You don't have to talk to NPC's to get through the Trails series.

There's a lot of quality content there if you do want to, but I'm not going to say it's mandatory.

I'm not either. I'm just saying if you don't you will miss hidden quests because that's how Falcom starts almost all of their hidden quests - both in Trails and Tokyo Xanadu. If you use a guide then you can avoid even that being a problem so if completion is a priority for you then well... you're gonna want one and you would have wanted one in Tokyo Xanadu too.
