Dude when I was in like, middle school, I read a ton of Star Fox fanfiction because I had a vague awareness of liking furry stuff and good authors used the series as a sort of clean slate to tell science fiction stories. There was one writer I loved who basically wrote his own telling of the whole series lore and used each of his stories to write with different perspective and in different genres. I don't think he ever finished his last one, he had sporadic author notes about law school so I guess life happened.
But damn, his page could've been a writing program portfolio, at least to my middle school mind lol. He had one that was fully in first person present tense about James McCloud going through basic training and joining the army, god tier stuff. He invented a religion and relatively complex social and inter-planetary politics that explain why the villain bosses in Star Fox 64 are all wolves, lizards, and apes. It's rough around the edges at times, but it's addictive. Like I have a dopamine rush anytime I engage with it. It's written in first person present tense so everything is happening in the now.
