It's pretty funny how they were legitimately backing it back then as the "Greatest Game of All Time" and not a flavour of the month rally, that it would have this huge, significant lasting legacy. And what's the sum total of that? 30% on Pac-Man. Would it do better internet-wide? Would it do better on larger game sites with more votes? Almost certainly not. As I said back then: if that's how they want to play it, if you want to argue that cute little Undertale belongs in that conversation then fine, you need to maintain its popularity and show up every day. You wanna say this thing deserves to rub shoulders with SSBM, RE4, FF7? Alright, prove it. Stay dedicated like those fanbases have. And in that case, Toby Fox no longer gets credit for doing it on his own. If that echelon is where you place Undertale, it is no longer an underdog and should be treated entirely on its own merits. I disagreed with the people saying it was a "meme game" (or "SJW game"), that's unfairly reductive. (And I do honestly like the game.) But it's clear that the popularity of Undertale is itself a meme. And it's sad that in the end, for all of their pretending otherwise, the UT fans weren't doing this out of pure love of the game.
