I think the most I've paid was like... $70-80? It was at the Wynn's buffet in Vegas, it was Mother's Day weekend so the price was higher than normal, and we paid an extra $20 to skip what was probably a 1.5-2 hour line. So a $160 meal for the two of us.

I recently paid like $350, and I would probably do it again. But that's maybe every other year at most though.

For a once-in-a-lifetime meal (e.g. my wedding or something), I could see spending $2-3k for sure. That would include travel and such cuz I don't think any chef would actually charge that much.

Most I've spent on just myself is currently $120 (omakase!). But I could easily be persuaded into dropping a few hundred at a special restaurant (like 3* Michelin type of place). In fact, I'm planning on doing it to celebrate the tentative completion of my actuarial exams next year...

That's definitely the worst thing about expensive food. Some places you do mostly pay for the food though (and some cheaper places you are still paying for atmosphere).

I've spent around 100 for a fugu meal before. I don't think it's really worth the chance of death since the taste is not really a thing, it's more this really weird texture.

There are other things I'd like to try, like a hot dog with truffles on it is on the list.

But for non like exotic things, I think $50 is what I'd cap out at after tips but before drinks and appetizers. I rarely get desserts. The two additions would probably add like $25 in my case.

Right, but the implication is the others had to spend more because they weren't satisfied with $20 food, unlike you. No one does that, it's just a special occasion or whatever and they end up liking it. You might have a similar experience. You've never tried it so you don't know.
