in TKO and Monster Seeking Monster we had someone adverting their website by drawing it on the t-shirts and slogans, and writing it in the MSM texts, and not playing the game. He even took FBike's name in MSM because he must've seen it playing other games. Sadly no way to boot people from Jackbox games

Jack box games are played using a phone as a controller. You go to their website, enter a room code that is in the screen, and pick a name.

Since the room code is on the screen anyone can join that is watching.

Not completely accurate - the code was never shown on screen, only shared with the discord.

it seems like if they hijacked your stream to promote a website they would be affiliated with that website in some way

for example if they were promoting Beyond Life And Games it would probably be Vlado or someone related to him. if they were promoting Dude Wheres My Freedom it would be SmartMuffin. etc. etc.

like it doesn't matter which discord account they were using to do it. if they were promoting a website you can figure out who the person was by thinking about who would want to promote that website. anyone can create a fake/temporary throwaway discord account... but hiding your true motives is impossible unless you're acting out of purely chaotic intent.

Their goal was antagonising, not promoting. It was a link to a huge website, and not a affiliate link.

oh okay. wigs post was pretty vague on that point so I guess I did misunderstand it.

what was the website? you can probably still make reasonable guesses based on that.

ah okay in that case I'd say either

1. it really was just some kind of advertising gimmick, but it was by someone or some entity that wouldn't really be identifiable by us. you might think they were just trying to antagonize people but it's also entirely possible that it was done by some paid advertiser who goes around looking for events and streams and hijacks them for whatever reason just to post ads. seems unlikely that a small place like board 8 would be targeted but you never know. all of the information they would need to do this is contained in the top two sticky topics on this board right now, so it's certainly possible.

2. it was perpetrated by some contest season troll. someone who showed up recently and probably thinks board 8 is a very silly place. this person has no desire to adapt or assimilate into our culture and generally just makes topics and does things in order to antagonize or annoy others. someone like supernicedog probably seems a bit too innocent for this kind of motive but it depends on how much of his persona is an act and if he really does just like messing with people. there's a few other lame joke alts that popped up recently that could easily fit this mold as well. I put a lot of these on ignore pretty much immediately so it's hard for me to give specific examples.

3. it's a more classic board 8 troll who did this because they knew doing it would annoy you guys and wanted to see your reaction. it can't be an egotistical self contained troll like ulti or vlado, because they would want their name attached to it and to receive credit. I could think of a few users who might do something like this because they thought it would be funny, and not care whether anyone knew it was them. although since I can't name every possibility I'd rather not list any names since that might unfairly bias suspicion toward certain people just because I named them.
