The Conners dropped in everything last nighttotal viewers, key demo. In the nightly ratings battle. the Roseanne spin off continues to trend downward.

Last night, The Conners was beaten by everything- NCIS, The Voice, etc. This was their first really objective run, no World Series, nothing to distract potential viewers.

But the key demo sank, which isnt a good sign. And the total viewers were down by 180K, which is a lot, frankly. People are leaving and theyre not coming back.

ABC has ordered 1 extra episode to the original order of 10. Sounds to me like a finale. Someone wakes up and says they dreamt Roseanne died. Theres a cackle from the next room. Fade to black.

ADDENDUM Variety is reporting that John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert are each being paid $375,000 an episode. Lets say Lacy Goranson and Michael Fishman get $100,000 apiece, then there the kids and DJs ex wife. Thats a heavy load per week if the ratings keep falling. The Conners has to be added to Roseannes syndication package eventually it will never reach 100 episodes and have its own package. So Werner TV is in trouble, with millions going out and not enough coming back. The Conners is doomed.

Roseanne is all about Roseanne though. The only funny parts the other characters have is playing off Roseanne.

I never like the original Roseanne. I always thought she was a bitch. She even looks like a hog. But even after all this shit, that shit show needs to go down in flames. John Goodman is awesome though. Him and Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince would have made for a great combo show somehow. They get angry REAL fast

Frasier was a spin-off based on one character. I don't know if most of the audience even knew he was from Cheers. He wasn't even one of the main characters on it.

The Voice at 8 p.m. received a 1.6/7 and 8.8 million viewers....

For ABC, The Conners at 8 kicked off the day part with a 1.8/8 and 7.7 million viewers.

And the article says it was "beat by NCIS, The Voice, everything..." when those two shows are literally the only shows that beat them...Come on man, get better sources

It's not unheard of. Yes, it's usually the death knell of a show, but some can make a go of it. Spin City got a couple of years after Michael J Fox left. Mystery Science Theatre 4 1/2 seasons with Mike instead of Joeal (granted few turned in for the cast of that show). Most noted might be Valerie / Hogan Family lasting 4 years after it's star got the boot after being on for 2, even seeing a ratings boost without her.

Rosanne was unsurprising because the show was so focused on her and her personality and the rest of the cast felt bland by comparison.
