Bonus question for parents: did you take your kids trick or treating

I feel like trick or treating is on the decline for some reason even though its objectivly the coolest childhood activity a wee one can experience.

My house is all lit up and has pumpkins carved and hasnt got a single trick or treater yet (my girlfriend is at home, not me so please spare us the predictable Santarpg jokes)

Is it helicopter parenting? Have sugary treats become forbidden in the modern american household?

Parents are way more paranoid these days then they were like 10 years ago, when I was a kid back in the 90s and 80s I was allowed to trick or treat on my own with a group of kids after age 8 or so. Now most parents think their kids will be abducted or some other nightmare scenario will happen to them.

Seems like a large group of parents take their kids trick or treating in the most safe environment possible like a Mall or something.

A synagogue near my house got attacked a few days ago. Lots of pain in the local community. People around here kinda lost the Halloween spirit. Havent had any trick or treaters tonight, and havent seen any in the neighborhood. Sad times.

Trick or treaters hit up the stores/restaurants around here instead of the residential buildings. Saw dozens when I was walking around earlier.

Yep this is mainly what happens now trick or treating in neighborhoods isn't much of a thing anymore

We've only had them like once in 3 years, and we didn't prepare candy. This year there was a screaming horde of them. The decision was made to distribute some ancient Dum-Dums, and I felt slightly ashamed.

I'm told we had a fair few of them. My decision to purchase baggies of Veggie Chips as well as candy went over well with parents with very young children. I wouldn't know, I was laid up in bed because of medical reasons. Sad I couldn't join in the fun, but glad so many kids had fun tonight.

Very low turnout in my neighborhood, lowest that I can remember. Last two big groups all got handfuls.

I had several, yes. Less than past years though. One thing I suspect is kids are going out earlier than I get home. I got home a little before six and saw several families out already even though it was still light out.

It was rainy, yet we had somewhere between 40 and 50 kids.

I had 30 treat bags prepared due to an expected low turnout, but I had enough extra candy on hand to cover the remaining kids.

Took the kids trick or treating. We were out for just under three hours and capped the night off with a hot chocolate before heading home. My partner handed out candy and said we had about 130 kids come by.

Fun night.

I had a lot of trick or treaters tonight, it helps to use the Nextdoor website's trick or treat map and mark your house as candy/haunted house. Some parents just drive their kids to the houses marked on those maps.
