Like any able body from the age 18 upwards should be required to vote.

On the ballot there should be an option for "None" or "decline to vote" so if you really don't want to vote for anyone, you don't have to.

I don't think it should be mandatory, but it would certainly be better than voter suppression and such. And under mandatory voting, I would be insistent that it is acceptable to cast a blank ballot/skip selections.

In that case you could use the "No vote" option. It's more that if you want to no-vote, you have to explicitly indicate this rather than just not showing up to the polls. This way, people can't claim "oh but what about the people who didn't vote, this guy clearly doesn't have majority approval", because it's clearly on record that the remainder didn't care (or didn't want to support either candidate). It's almost necessary, given that both sides (admittedly the left a bit more so than the right, but let's not pretend that the right doesn't do it a lot too) love to claim "all those no-votes would have been for our candidate/party!"

Like I said, you don't have to vote for a candidate, you can have the option to decline voting on the ballot. But you are REQUIRED to go to the ballot to do that.

My dad tried to use that on me when I didn't vote, he said "just pick anyone, you have to vote though" and to me that sounds like the worst possible thing to do. I didn't even know the names of the people running, let alone any of their ideas, and I'm supposed to just pick whichever name I think is cooler just so I can say I voted? Doesn't that go against the entire purpose of voting? I can't understand that logic.
