Like millennials just want to tip for everything. Now it's a thing that you're supposed to leave $5 tip per day that you stay in a hotel room.

Have you ever done this? I refuse. Hotel rooms are expensive enough.

You tip a guy if he brings your luggage up. Otherwise, no. Hotel employees besides bell hops or valets get paid wages that arent expected to be supplemented by tips.

Yeah I don't know, it seems people in my generation that want to tip on everything. Now it's like every fast food place has a tip jar too.

I very methodically ask when I get something that asks for a tip and isn't a normal situation for such where the tips go.

If I'm just picking up food for myself then unless I can tip the cook, I ain't tipping you for bringing me the food to the counter and collecting my money for it.

Well Im 41 and I was taught to tip when you are waited on and/or given an extra service that you could do yourself; valet parking, bellhops, etc.

There are exceptions. I dont venture to Sonic often but the had 50 cent corn dogs on Halloween and found out they make full wages. They didnt use to when I first moved here.

Tipping for random nonsense has been a thing forever. When I used to be a bagger at a grocery store I'd always have people try to give me tips all the time just for doing my job. Some would relent on it once we stated our policy on tipping, but others were strangely insistent. I had to accept a tip in front of a few managers once cause the customer just refused to back down from giving me a tip.

I don't tip anyone at hotels unless it's a long stay, then I might leave a little for the maid.

No idea why you'd tip valet parkers. Fuck valet parking, it's the worst idea ever. Stay the fuck out of my car.

You have it backwards. Tipping hotel maid service a couple bucks per day has always been a thing in the U.S., but younger people today (under 40) are less likely to do it.

34 year old here

I was in a hotel for work for 6 weeks this year. I had valet parking to get in and out everyday to the officr.

I tipped a few bucks almost always in and out.

Left a few bucks in the room too every so often.

Bellhop got tipped.

I got raised to dp this. Nice how it goes full circle too. Weekends featured alot of wedding parties. Valets are swamped. But I rarely had to wait after slipping them beefy tips my first weekend there!

I've always learned to tip the hotel maids that clean your room, at least at the end of your stay. And like many here I learned it from my dad who clearly isn't a millenial.

Last time I stayed in a hotel I made a big mess in the corner with cat litter. Left em $20 and my solemn prayers and apologies
