The DKC games are awesome, and so is DK64. Maybe someday I'll have the chance to play the series revival, which probably helped his contest fortunes as much as being in Smash.

But nah, to be serious for a while, this feels really cool. I learned how to read through Donkey Kong Country strategy guides, associating pictures with words and images on-screen in order to try to help the neighborhood kids and my mom beat the DKC trilogy. I imitated the voices of K. Rool, Funky, and DK from the Donkey Kong Country TV series, and that set me to love voiceover and want to get in there as my main career path. The guy's been my Smash main since 64, and I've always wanted him to have even the slightest bit of success here, but that's... well, more than never panned out.
I took him over Tidus in R1 less out of faith and more out of "I would feel wrong if DK scored the upset and I didn't support him". Never in my wildest dreams did I think he'd see a R3 of a contest again. Just seeing people actually like the guy again? Yeah, I legitimately love DK. He's a great platforming lead with loads of personality in his design and animations. The DKC games are ace too - especially 2 and Tropical Freeze. The original trilogy (and the music of Tropical Freeze) was developed in an area I used to live in and it's cool to see that place get some representation in the industry.
