BTW, don't let anyone fool you. This was a wave:

Sam Wang

@SamWangPhD
The NYT currently projects a national popular-vote margin of D+9.2%. The largest popular margin since 2008, larger than waves of 1994, 2006, 2010, 2014.

1994: R+7.1%
2006: D+8.0%
2008: D+10.6%
2010: R+7.2%
2014: R+5.7%

By historical standards, this a popular wave.

Anyone who thinks both sides don't gerrymander like motherfuckers is just biased as all hell.

Like, pull up some of these traditional blue powers and look at some of the insanity of these districts. They all do it.

Compare popular votes in each state vs. percentage of house representatives in each state and tell me that Republicans do not get more from it.

In Ohio In Florida. In North Carolina. In Texas. In Michigan. Previously in Pennsylvania.

Yeah Maryland is a mess I'll give you that but that's pretty much all Democrats have done.

I'm pretty ok with these results. Sadly the Senate is gonna be much worse than I expected but I don't think there's a huge difference between a 51-49 and a 53-47 going forward. It makes 2020 tougher but other than that I think it's way more important that this administration finally be properly investigated and Trump's agenda put on hold.

No, he's still wrong because even if they have a Republican lean, they'll still be defending heavily in the 2020 election. And God help them if there's an economic downturn.

Dems could not win a swing state Senate seat in an environment where they were +9.2 in a mid term against one of the least popular administrations in history.

How exactly are they going to win the Senate in an election year or worse, while defending with the presidency?

I mean the targets for the 2020 election for Dems would be Maine (Collins), Colorado (Gardner), North Carolina (Tillis), Iowa (Ernst), and Arizona (Kyl) with the only Doug Jones likely to lose. It's 22 to 12, even factoring in Republican lean you have to figure on an upset or two.

The rural/urban divide is exactly the same as it ever was and ever has been since the fucking Industrial Revolution.

These conflicts have ALWAYS existed.

Our partisan politics are playing INTO these conflicts more than they once did but that's not sustainable... and it never really has been.

You think this is the first time this has happened? I hate that saying, but history will pretty much always repeat itself because the causes and effects continue to cycle.
