picking someone because they are gay is just as bad as not picking someone because they are gay.
this could mean a good level of tolerance of that area, but it can also be another sign of bad democracy, but i am staying positive, maybe he really is competent and good governor. congrats.

While I like the progressiveism, I would say drawing attention to it commits the same foul as virtue signaling. I'll let Knuckles explain:

Sadly we're a long way off of that.

I have to wonder if being homosexual will ever be something people can just gloss over without having to mention it. It is, admittedly, something that's hard to not notice even if you deliberately try to mix it into the background noise of a person's entity.

it's not wrong to acknowledge something is not the status quo, while wanting it to be in the future.

this is a fallacy that people have. one can seek the end goal for all to be treated equal while pointing out that the current conditions have not led to equal outcomes to this point.

the line of thinking that this is counterproductive is along the same line of people saying "to get rid of racism, everyone should just stop talking about race", and then to adopt colorblind policies. things that are "colorblind" only serve to preserve the status quo because of inertia. If you leave it alone, people in dominant positions can retain those positions unchecked.

Too much this. I dont give a fat rats ass what he does in his own bedroom and if you vote for someone because of their sexual orientation, gender or race, you might be an r word.

This is only true if being gay is not viewed negatively. In the reality we live in where the republican party is a black hole of homophobia and other bigotry, then no, electing someone because they are gay is absolutely not nearly as bad as not electing them because of same.

the people who use "virtue signal" in serious discussions never seem to use it when people are using "God" and "family values" to attract certain demographics.

I guess it depends on the bias, eh? if you love God for example, seeing God being pushed in the national anthem, court, our currency, etc... isn't a problem. if you have contempt for gays, any push is "them pushing it in my face!"

double standards are easy to see once you recognize a pattern.

???

But I do agree with your point of view. Christian movies are shitty for that reason (rather than weave an interesting and compelling tale that happens to involve salvation as the linchpin to their happy ending, it's slapped into the story awkwardly and brazenly to the point that it's disruptive and obviously ham-handed; watch War Room if you want to see what I'm talking about, movie is horrible because of how matter-of-fact it treats belief in God instead of trying to construct a story that uses it effectively).

There are certainly people who voted for him out of tokenism, but that doesn't determine whether or not he's good.

That, and really, how badly do you have to fuck up to be worse than a republican?

There is no place for partisan bickering in state politics. Polis campaign was Ill stand up to trump! and he spent exponentially more money.

You can choose to look at our nations politics however you want, but playing identity politics doesnt make a candidate a good leader. I sure hope he does a good job, because unlike you guys, hes been elected to my state.
