Compared to Obama in 2010, where democrats lost 63 House seats and 6 Senate seats, and 1994 under Clinton where they lost 53 seats....

Those are big losses. This time the GOP expanded their control over the Senate and lost maybe 30 House seats.

Plus the big headlines like Beto failing and Taylor Swift causing the biggest turnout ever in TN, yet her guy still lost.

Nationally the GOP remains very strong. Very disappointing for Dems.

Pretty much. Considering that Americans vote in line as a pendulum, this was a great success for the GoP. I've always said that it was a vocal minority that "hate Trump" and I think the results show just that

The entire 2010 election was about a government control of healthcare

Obama and the democrats were completely blindsided by the way Republicans acted on healthcare

The House will not pass anything Trump and his cronies put together. but you can continue living in denial, we know Trumpers are really good at that.

Pelosi said she's looking to end the divide and find bipartisan ideas. I'm hopeful that comes true. It would be better for everyone.

bipartisan agreements require both sides, though. do you really think Trump will let the GOP compromise with those filthy liberals?

The scripted spin from you guys is quite hilarious, especially from a crowd that calls other people NPC's.

Seriously, this topic is quite literally created based off an image about how Obama and Clinton lost more seats in their first midterms and completely ignoring the nuance of those races compared to this.

During Obama, when the GOP controlled the House and Dems the Senate, GOP passed a ton of bills through the House and were open to negotiations to make everyone happy. Instead, as soon as it reached the Senate, it was tabled. No discussions, no compromises. We're willing to work with you. You're not willing to work with us.

Yes, it is. Denying it doesn't make it untrue. It was Harry Reid in control of the Senate and he never let any bill hit the floor. The Senate has the power to change what the House passes but Reid refused to do that. He just tabled everything. It is a fact

It's exact opposite of what happened. Actually they even tried to work with the GOP during 2008-2009 to come up with a plan for the ACA that the republicans would like when they didn't even have to.

It was a pretty bad night for the DNC. They had to publicly admit that their blue wave (a plan to take BOTH the house AND the senate) was all for nothing.

They spent literally $5billion advertising and campaigning, and for what? They didnt gain any more ground than they would have gained if everybody had just ignored the elections. Their message to fear vote didnt help their cause and actually backfired when we showed up and voted in unprecedented numbers.

To recap, they told us that they would take 2/3 of the government to have Trump effectively useless and to try to impeach him. That IS what the blue wave was supposed to be and it didnt go through.

Now, theyre like, n-no! The blue wave was only to take he house!! Right, guys?? Nobody ever thought we would take the senate!

Wrong. We all remember the premature celebrations that started months ago. Because of that fact alone, we tended off the blue wave and we picked up the decisive victory.

Well in NC, the GOP used the opportunity to entrench themselves by gerrymandering districts to a ridiculous extent and trying to disenfranchise black and young voters. It worked. They lost their supermajorities here, but it will be a long time before we see a more balanced government in this very purple state.

You're gonna have to dig up some quotes, because ever since the blue wave was predicted I've never seen anyone say that Dems were taking the senate. It's always been the House that was up for contention.

Spoken like someone who probably can't identify what those other metrics are.

There was a quantifiable blue wave this year-- larger than the Tea Party wave in 2010. This wave produced fewer seats than in 2010 because it crashed against structural barriers (e.g. gerrymandering), but it was still enough to wash a huge number of Republicans out of the House. The wave did exactly what it was predicted to do.

In all seriousness though, there were reports last week that there was going to be a major shakeup in Trump's White House/Cabinet after the election. Today he wasted no time at all with firing Sessions.

I truly get the impression that Trump knew this was going to happen to the House and he's gotten prepared accordingly. His strategy of instead strengthening his position with the Senate paid off.
