If the plan is to listen to both St Anger first, both for chronological reasons and you'll end on a higher note with Hardwired. If not just listen to HW.

Had a little listening party with St. Anger one night with some friends. The game was: For the duration of the album you can only make positive comments about the music. If anything negative is said - you finish your beer and grab another.

St. Anger is good for what it is, a chronicle of the band in a time of turmoil. And it has a few good songs IMO ("Frantic" has a helter-skelter feel to it and a good drum part; "Some Kind of Monster" is as beautiful a dirge as the band ever wrote; and "Invisible Kid" is just a fun, dumb riff).
