What is the cheapest way and what's the most convenient way of transporting your shtuffs via airline? I have 2 gaming systems, a fightstick, all of my personal effects (which includes 2 or 3 big winter jackets), a laptop, and I intend on bringing back a fair amount of new things well.

I thought about just eschewing all of that and shipping it ahead of time. I'd like to avoid hauling/paying for two suitcases, but if it's not as bad as it seems based on ya'll's experiences, I'd like to hear it.

It sounds like you either are taking a really lame ass trip or are a huge dork if you can't travel without taking two (I'm assuming full-size) game systems

Also I don't know the answer to your question

Might be a good idea to weigh your luggage before going to the airport. For any suitcases you check, theyll add fees if anything is over a certain limit - typically 50 lbs.

And like LinkPizza said, wear what you can instead of packing it. Might not be convenient, but wearing a heavy jacket saves you space in the suitcase, and lightens the load.

As far as shipping stuff goes, it can be smart, but it isnt always cost effective. Youd really just need to compare costs ahead of time.

Outta curiosity, what games do you play with the stick?

Sorry for deleted post. Kitty help with that...

Are you moving?

For me, using the military help because of getting free bags checked. For you, Injabe tips you may or may not know. You can bring 2 bags. A carry-on, which can be a pretty good size rolling bag. And a personal item, which could be a backpack. The carry on just has to be able to fit in the overhead bin. And the backpack under the seat. The backpack fitting under the seat might be a big problem if youre bring some winter coats, because you can probably use a winter coat to cover it if it is a little too big. And you can wear extra stuff like coats and whatnot. It can get hot, but Ive done it before. You can take off extra layers after boarding... or before... My flights have recently been doing a thing where if its a full flight, they ask people check their bags, which they do for free. And youll get you bag back when you land. But that only helps you if you bring more than 2 bags with you through. And because its not a garuntee, I wouldnt risk it all the time. But there are ways to get multiple things through. I saw a couple with three things each make it though and on the plane. Then prefers to take up a bunch of space like assholes, so...

It shouldnt be an issue with game systems. Ive brought 3-4 with me before and it all fit in my carry-on. And had room to spare.

Nope, just taking an extended vacation. I've never actually used an overhead compartment before, I always bring a backpack and put it under the seat though, so I might have to consider the overhead this time. I'm sure I could find a compact hardcase designed for electronics and put all of that in there.

I would definitely suggest using it. I use to go home for month-long vacations regularly. And I did my best not to check bags. Only 1, if I had to since it was free. But using both carry-on and a personal item was a big help. And if you can find a hard suitcase, a soft on should work. You could either put something in around the edges like clothes, or a big coat. Or towels, though I usually dont travel with towels, or even the cords. And soft suitcases could work better cause they usually have an extra zipper to open the bag more. And can bend to fit more in. And Ive never had a problem with them in the many years of many flights. Another thing it dont be afraid to split stuff up. If the suitcase with game stuff is full, but you still have a few cords and controllers that wont fit. Stuff them in you backpack if you have room. I have to do that, as well...

And pack well. Use all the space in a bag. Try to play the most intense game or 3D Tetris of your life. Lots of people could pack way more if they packed better. And its always good to make sure you know of there are things you dont have to bring. Like things you could get there...

ship the game systems to where you're staying ahead of time. why do you need 3 different coats?

ship home everything you want to bring back.

Packing is not my strong suit (suite?) at all. Everytime I visit home for vacation, my folks help me pack up for the trip back cause I have literally gone out to buy another bag before because I "ran out of space."

Because I'm big into fashion and like having options. I suppose I really could just bring 1, despite me not wanting to lol I realize it's inefficient for me to try and bring them all.

Packing was my strong suit either... until I start going home much more. Haha.

And I always say the same thing to my mom about the clothes. Even on short trips, I bring a good amount of clothes because Im never sure of the weather. And I like having options. Especially for different activities...

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

I believe I'm going to pack three bags, one carry on, one checked, and another for the overhead and I'll be cutting down to just one jacket. Now I have to decide which is my favorite!

You're not allowed to take more than one carry on on airplanes. In America at least which I assume you're in America. You can take a backpack though since it doesn't count for anything unless they changed that in like the last 7 years since I've flown with a shitload of stuff.

You can have a carry on and a personal item. Carry on can be like a good size roller bag. Personal item can be backpack, purse, a suit bag(like the bag you hang clothes is), laptop bag, etc...

A full size bag would be overheard which would also count as the carry on.

Basically, you can bring 2 bags as long as one fits overhead and one fits under the seat. Though, as long as they both fit overhead, it should be fine.

Southwest lets you bring two checked bags for free. Also, some airline credit cards (Delta, for example) give you a checked bag for free. Wear your biggest, heaviest, fluffiest coat on the airline so you don't have to put it in your luggage.

As some people have mentioned, make sure you weigh your bags. Good luck!

They also weigh the luggage and charge extra if it goes over a certain amount. I would have been so fucked if they had weighed my carry on.

I have never had my carry on or personal item weighed. I fly a lot. Where do they do that?

I don't know. I'm just saying I would have been screwed. I was moving and it weighed at least 50 pounds if not more.
