It is impossible for manga characters to join (Super Smash Bros.).

While we can accept characters from other companies, we cannot, under any circumstances, take in anything and everything under the sky. Thats because (Super Smash Bros.) is a game that requires everyones cooperation.

Cloud is first and foremost a videogame character along with Virtua Fighter. Goku is first and foremost a manga/anime character and there are still new changes being made to him ala new transformations etc.

A game with video game characters won't add characters that do not originate from video games

Seems pretty cut and dry

Smash Bros is a Nintendo character crossover.
Later, 3rd party characters added are at least a main character of a game on a Nintendo system, which Goku has done multiple times.
Cloud and Akira's appearances on Nintendo consoles have only ever been minor side characters in crossover spinoffs. They have never starred in a game on a Nintendo system.

Said mines were then remolded to be Smash exclusive AND their original design's trophy never stated where they came from. Dumb to bring them up but also dumb to think that was a good counter.

I wouldn't really call it desperation. Just completely ruling it out is dumb as hell, especially with the history of the series proving all of these meaningless rules wrong with every release.

N64 Smash was straight up GoldenEye, and it's trophy said TOP SECRET either for counterpick reasons or to be cheeky because it's a spy agency.

Unlike Goku though, Mickey doesn't have nearly as good a video game pedigree. Outside of his brief stint during the 16 bit days and recently Kingdom Hearts, he barely shows his face. Meanwhile Goku has been going strong since NES, actually had multiple best selling games, including one right now that's one of the top games of its genre (DBFZ), and Funimation was pushing to have the guy in Smash:

Mickey is an icon in a similar way to Mario. That's the only reason he'd be an exception in my mind. Like a game where Mario and Mickey meet would make the news.

I don't think Goku being in lots of games is really relevant. Batman is in lots of games too and I don't see him being in Smash.

Plus, Sakurai never said that Sonic would never be in.

He never said Goku wouldn't either. It sounds like, from that quote at least, that they possibly even reached out and one company wasn't on board which is making it impossible.
