Theres never gonna be someone to vote for that has never done anything wrong or that you agree with completely on every issue

You guys very possibly had the absolute worst political choices in history for that one.

Well.... keep in mind the country was coming off 8 years of Obama. The presidential pendulum tends to swing between parties every 8-12 years and Obama's approval ratings was down. This was also her second presidential bid so there was less enthusiasm, doubly so because she was all-but-guaranteed to get the party nomination and most people expected her to win the presidency. And, of course, the nation had a strong anti-establishment vibe going, which also helped Bernie Sanders.

That's not to say that she didn't fuck up. She didn't even bother visiting some places she hadn't expected to win (meaning fewer votes in those states). Her messaging was bland and she lacked both a memorable slogan (like Trump's #MAGA or Obama's "Yes, we can!").

faramir77 posted...

Which was certainly one problem. She had a generic progressive platform rather than a specific focus, like Trump's wall/anti-immigration and economic focus.

There's obviously no law against it. However, it's rare for a party to nominate a general election candidate again. The most immediate example will always be Nixon, since he lost to JFK in the general election and then years later won the presidency.

But the point is, politics shouldn't be that.

If you're living in a world where every choice is bad, you have clearly fucked something up.

There's a difference between voting for someone because you agree with most of what they say but disagree with some of what they believe, and voting for someone you actively hate and disagree with solely because you hate and disagree with the other choice more. A two-party system that pulls to the extremes and feels the need to choose opposed binary stances on every issue disenfranchises a significant majority of voters.

p sure there are levels between perfect upstanding citizen and absolute garbage trash human being though. yeah, go in expecting a perfect saint and you're gonna be pissed off, but it really shouldn't be out of the question to expect someone who isn't an absolute piece of shit, which is all we seem to have anymore.

"hey, i guess this guy is okay" is fine, but it doesn't even seem to be an option. picking the opposite of "ugh, fuck this asshole" isn't necessarily the same thing.
