*presses button to reload gun*
*Arthur punches civilian in the face*

*Game tells me to shoot in the air to make sheep run faster*
*Have to do some weird ass combo of holding right trigger to aim and hold up on the D-Pad to shoot in the air*
*Accidentally shoot sheep up the ass and John Marston yells in confusion*

On top of that there's no reload checkpoint option during a story mission. It only comes up when you die. Why!

Why are the menu options so weird? Why is Save/Load under the Story option in the menu? Progress seems like the more logical place but that's completion percentages.

It's a great game but god damn. Crazy how this stuff is still an issue with Rockstar. I think RDR2 is probably the worst so far because you have the sluggish controls along with the convoluted inputs.

There is. You have to bring up the log with left dpad and then abandon the mission

It was an accident because I didn't realize that you were supposed to hold onto Up instead of toggling it. That combined with the lock-on button also being the shoot button lead to bad times.

I have a habit of reloading after a fight. I don't think I've ever played a game where I've ended up punching someone when I've wanted to reload.

I've had to train myself to make sure I'm far away from civilians if I want to reload. Even if you've got a little distance Arthur will do a big swing.

I accidentally threatened to rob someone once but luckily I ran away and I didn't get a bounty.

This is wrong. You just press up then shoot. The game tells you.

I did that but accidentally shot the sheep. Maybe because I pressed right trigger again wrong or something.

You aim with left trigger.

That's now what the game told me when riding the horse and herding the sheep. It told me to press RT to equip the gun.

You are already locking onto them with Left Trigger to yell commands at them.

Right sorry. But you only press up once to aim in the air, not hold it.

I mean, it's pretty much classic Rockstar. There's so many little issues, even if the game as a whole is pretty much incredible. I like walking up to something and hit Y to investigate, then Arthur feels the need to take 4 steps to the left, then 4 steps back to the right before looking, lol.

tbf, I think after each cutscene, your guns are automatically reloaded, so I never reloaded around civilians

tbf, I think after each cutscene, your guns are automatically reloaded, so I never reloaded around civilians

I'm talking about the random encounters throughout the world.

I don't think you can hit or shoot story allies. I tried to kill John after accidentally shooting the sheep to force the checkpoint but it wouldn't let me.

im enjoying RDR2 so far but i do agree that it has some of the worst controls i have ever seen. there is absolutely no consistency for anything, feels like all the controls are made up on the fly. ok, let's make X pick stuff up. Nevermind, this time let's do LB. Unless it's a gun, then you use RB. etc etc

ive probably put in a solid 5+ hours into the game and i do not feel comfortable doing anything other than walking around and shooting, and even then it feels wonky lol

Definitely did the accidental smack an NPC's face while trying to reload.

Had another occasion where I just wanted to get on my horse but Arthur instead grabbed the nearest NPC. That kind of shit is frustrating, you shouldn't attack non-hostile NPCs unless you are specifically targeting them with L2.

I also have cases where it seems like Arthur will draw his gun for no reason. Like I wanted to talk to random NPCs and when I went to target them he just pulled his fucking gun out and got me wanted.

I didn't even know you could pick up guns until I saw that prompt and even then I had to stand for a few seconds to figure it out because of how weird it was.

Lol yeah I accidentally kicked a doctor when I meant to put down a wounded guy

I don't think the controls are necessarily bad, it's just they don't have a forgiving system when it comes to accidents. In my case, I kicked the doctor on accident, he sprinted out, called the cops, and I go to jail. Another instance I accidentally rolled over someone on my horse, so I hopped off to try and apologize, but it was instantly WANTED --> UNARMED ASSAULT, and the cops literally murdered my right there with no chance to surrender.

I can't like, I dunno, offer the guy $5 and an apology?
