While Vice City nailed the atmosphere and soundtrack, I believe San Andreas improved the flaws it had in the gameplay/controls department and added a plethora of new, fun things to do. Plus the map was amazing. San Andreas will always be my favorite.

I can't really speak on VC cause to this day the hype still never makes sense to me. It's also behind GTA3 to me. And the Liberty City Stories.

I have fond memories of VC since it came out while I was in my college party years. My buddies and I played the shit out of it, while mostly blasted, for months and months on and off.

GTA IV had the best story and characters. CTW was probably the most underrated of the series.

III, Vice City, and San Andreas were all amazing. I'm still not sure which one I like best, but I think they're better than anything else Rockstar has ever done.

I feel like Vice Citys map is so easy to navigate that I barely need to look at the full map during the game (this was before waypoints so its especially impressive), also its a great size, not too big or small.

Also the game in general feels like it has a lot to do but its not massive gabajillion hours.

Great balance overall.

Ive played both in the last few years. I like GTA3 better still. Vice city has an annoying long map layout that causes you to drive long distances for pretty much every single mission. And it's drive on the same few roads every time. There is a lot less ways to get places like in GTA3. Id rather take my chances taking a shotgun blast from the mafia or automatics from the cartel.
