That's very over-broad logic. I mean, it implies that no ideology has ever killed anyone, even implicitly violent ideologies(which Stalinism most definitely is). That's perhaps a vastly more generous standard than we should be using.

Stainism should never have happened. If you read up on the Russian Revolution, Lenin never intended for Stalin to take power and instead wanted Trotsky to take his place because he knew how insane Stalin was.

So? It DID happen. Lenin wasn't exactly in a rush to hold elections or otherwise empower the people politically. You can argue that that was necessary while the Civil War was raging(certainly there was a lot of hand-wringing over the fact that the Paris Commune spent months having elections while the 3rd Republic gathered up its armies to crush it), but that doesn't explain the after. Lenin was also responsible for empowering Stalin in the first place: he was Lenin's left-hand, basically, going back to before the Revolution. Lenin knew Trotsky and Stalin hated each other, but prepared no contingencies, and, of course, Stalin had long controlled the Soviet bureaucracy.
It is a shame: a Trotskyist USSR would probably have been better and a much more interesting and instructive failure than the one we got.
