Even though progress has been made there it hasn't completely been eliminated and still gets taught down from generation to generation. The Civil Rights movement in this country alone wasn't THAT long ago. Its just complete ignorance. You're taught by your Parents, who were taught by their parents, who were taught by their parents, etc, etc...Then, one day you have ONE bad experience with someone of that race or see someone on TV act wrongly (Because lets be real, a lot of these racists probably don't have real life experiences that caused their ignorance) and you use that to justify your beliefs... My guess is that in those types of places, there aren't too many minorities so they don't experience enough first-hand interactions to counteract the negative perception they develop from the media. I can't speak to other countries' racial histories, but in the US racism has not been just some abstract antipathy towards minorities, but an economic interest. The exclusion of black people, Asians, and Hispanics from certain jobs, institutions, etc. has meant increased opportunities for white people. And I think if you do a study, you will find that more people that are racist happen to have financial difficulty. Because you are typically stupid if you have financial difficulties.
