I think you just put a scoop. Thats the kind we use at work. And they usually just use a scoop.

There is usually a scoop with different lines for amounts needed. Most, if not all, detergent has instructions on how much, where and when to put in the detergent.

There are lines on the scoop but the intructions are just
1. Start washer
2. Add detergent
3. Add clothes
:(

Depending on how heavily soiled or how big the sheets you are washing are depends on how much you need. I would say fill it to the half way line.

You're going to create a room full of bubbles now. I remember when my mom taught me about laundry detergent, I was 7.

It should have some instructions. I've also dealt with cat messes but luckily I have a spare blanket or two.

I did that with the dishwasher once. They never taught me how to use it. But they let me use it when I stopped doing dishes by using disposable items. But I put regular dish soap in it...

SOME washing machines with a detergent dispenser require that you move a piece in the drawer to allow the powdered detergent to flow properly.

On mine (a 15 year old Whirlpool Duet) there's a separator that has two positions, in one it acts like a dam to hold liquid detergents, in the other it's open at the bottom allowing the water to carry the powder away. It looks like this: http://www.fixya.com/uploads/images/DA572AB.jpg
