It's because it proactively filters out all the divisive garbage and relegates it to the back end of the website where it deserves to be. Yes, they have had failures of expediency on this pathway, but they've actually worked to address it.

That's more than I can say for this relic.

I won't say that reddit does everything better than the FAQs at all. Aside from the fact that this website hasn't upgraded its gadgets for the 21st century is one reason why this site is failing, but that's been an issue for a decade. The more recent issue this website has is its due diligence and protocol on dealing with the violations that actually make people not want to come to this website anymore. This website was great because of the community it fostered. Reddit is hundreds of millions of unwashed masses being able to post at the right time and get dem thumbs. Still, I'd rather see that than watch a solvable problem continually not get addressed with an adequate response time.

i regularly go on the patriots subreddit and there's no one there i remember or even recognise the user name of, even after a few years

Well /r/Patriots alone has over 100k subscribers which is probably more than this site ever actively carried.

I have a few subreddits that are only ~10k each and you definitely start to recognize the regular posters.

/Fire Emblem Heroes for instance is full of memes interlaced with the meaningful discussion and anything else is concentrated into super threads

Gamefaqs Fire Emblem Heroes board has the occasional useful topic but is otherwise full of people who think lolis should be thrown into woodchippers, people who think anyone gives a fuck about Thracia aside from themselves and 11 other people, and people who think every banner is a bait banner, whatever that means.

I got instabanned from the GameFAQS reddit for posting blackmanass once. At least actual GameFAQs will let you get away with a few warnings / purgs before they ban you over it.

Reddit, despite being the biggest message board platform on the internet, doesn't even have the ability to make post history private, essentially encouraging harassment unless you opt to make multiple alts.

When people on reddit engage in doxxing and harassment campaigns against other users, the admins work swiftly to delete the offending info and to ban the offending user. When people on gamefaqs engage in doxxing and harassment campaigns, the mods react swiftly to suspend the person reacting poorly to having all of their info disseminated while excusing the doxxer for not technically breaking the ToS.

Voting systems in general are just awful and flawed. If you said you weren't a fan of the new Rock Band DLC, you'd get downvoted to oblivion unless it's something that's universally agreed to be awful like Imagine Dragons
