You know what that means for this contest.

Anyways, how many playthroughs have you done of OOT, and when?

EDIT: God I fucking hate Reddit for pulling an anniversary topic two days early.

One. Grew up with a PSX and FFVII. Finally made it a mission to play OoT before I turned 30 and beat it on the eve of my 30th birthday.

It was amazing. I can only imagine what it would have felt like to a kid in 1998. I fully understand the nostalgia for it here now.

The best game ever made. Still nothing that close to it. It has 3 games in its own series that gave it a shot, and VII and CT.... but in the end there truly is only one Ocarina of Time.

Ive beaten it well well over 100 times now. Lost count years ago. The magic is always there. Happy 20th to the G.O.A.T.

I've finished it once about 5 years ago or so, but I played ot back in 1998 when I was bad at finishing games (granted I was 6)

Probably about 10 playthroughs that were abandoned at some point, particularly when I was kid.

I think it's very overrated and wouldn't even put it in my top 5 Zelda games.

There have been some months Ive beaten it twice.

I only beat the game maybe 2 or 3 times back when it was new.
Spent a long time with it and it was a great time.

The best story is that I received the game for Christmas as a present. But I "Rented" the game, my dad just let me play the copy he bought over Thanksgiving break (All the copies at all of the nearby Blockbusters were rented out). Then in the weeks leading up to Christmas he let me hide it under the couch and I would play it when my mom was not around. I had to act surprised on Christmas day when I opened it lol. Good times!!
Memorable game and times!

Been watching a crap ton of randomizer playthroughs recently.

I decided that next time I play this game it will be the 3DS version, which I don't own yet. I heard that it's the definitive version of the game though.

It remains and will probably always remain my favorite game ever. The magic of that first playthrough in December 1998 will never leave me.

Beaten it probably a dozen times. I decided to speedrun it several years ago and beat it in about nine hours. Tried again the very next day and did it in seven, so while I can't say I've beaten it dozens of times, I've done it twice in two days.

I never owned the original on 64 but I borrowed it from a friend many times and beat it a few times. I used to read through the strategy guide on the bus to and from school whenever I didn't have the game lol.

I've also got the game on 2 different gamecube preorder discs and I think I beat each of those once. And then I got it and beat it again on 3DS. It's kinda weird to think about just how many times I've actually beaten it. O.o

I personally feel like Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 are among the first games I'd recommend to someone new to video games who wants to jump in. For those who have established their gaming "careers" playing modern games though, it's a whole different story.

Thinking back, Ocarina of Time isn't really flawless, but no game is (and I'd still argue that OOT is one of the games that gets the closest to achieving perfection). Most of the game's problems stem largely from the advancements in technology since - when the game was released it probably wowed critics and gamers so much precisely because no one could even imagine a game like this getting made.

I've never actually beaten it from start to finish. I've played the beginning and I've played the end, but there's a period in the middle there.

The weakness of the game is that there are a few arbitrary logic leaps you have to make to progress in the main world, so it is easy to become stuck and bored- especially if you don't want to look up a guide
---
You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

And I agree, super Mario 64 is for sure the first 3d game I'd introduce to people. Controls are flexible enough, it's fun to explore, and if you get stuck you can move on to a different level

First played it in '99 or so, and probably a few times after that.

I remember for that first playthough, I had some video game magazine that included a walkthrough for the game, and I went to it for tips when I got stuck. Unfortunately, it had a few pieces of bad info, including a totally wrong location for the Fire Arrow which led to me getting stumped at one point in Ganon's Castle. I had to look up the real location somewhere else.

I have beaten it probably four times as well. Each time, I come to appreciate some things a little more (Link's footwork, Fire and Water Temples, gameflow) and some things less (world, side activities, bosses, hitbox).

I vastly prefer the 2D/2.5D offerings over the 3D ones (I think Majora's Mask is the only 3D among my Top 8 or so). I'm also not a big fan of the series as a whole. If I were to make my Top 10 Nintendo series, I am not sure that LoZ makes it.

That being said, I do think that Ocarina of Time is good game and a more than admiral initial effort for its transition from 2D into 3D.

Originally played it on N64 when I was like 7, never beat back then. Beat twice on virtual console, one a 100 percent run.

Also recently picked up the randomizer, played part of a run yesterday in fact in honor of the anniversary. Completed one randomizer of 4 attempts, one I didn't compress so saves got corrupted, second I beat, third I got semi-locked by either having to execute a little glitch of Hookshot or Bomb hover across Gerudo Valley, or maybe there was a chest I didn't know about, but didn't know where it'd be. And of course, my current run which is still just fine.

I feel like that would take a real firm slicing up of the various Mario series

I mean Mario itself is a franchise with a plethora of distinct series, so I don't know why I wouldn't count them as separate entities.

My order is more or less:
1. Super Mario
2. Pikmin
3. WarioWare
4. Paper Mario
5. Mario Golf
6. Kyle Hyde (if you consider two games to be a series)
7. Advance Wars
8. Mario Kart
9. Mario Party
10. F-Zero
11. Mario & Luigi
12. Kirby
13. Metroid
14. Legend of Zelda

If you were to consider New Super Mario Bros and Metroid Prime as their own series (I see them as sub-series), then Zelda drops to 16th.

- Beat it in 99 when I was nine.
- I got a Zelda compilation game for resubscribing to Nintendo Power I think and wanted to know what my thoughts were in 2005 or so now that I was a teenager.
- I decided to pay the $15 or so for the 3DS game in like 2012 or so because I had always wanted to try out the Master Quest version. I also wanted to see what my thoughts were now that I was an adult.
- It was selected for a project here called Game of the Month and thought that was a good way to kill some time late at night.
