isn't that the stupidest thing you ever heard?

What's so stupid about getting a week off from school?

It's a zero-sum game. The school is required to be in session by state law for a certain number of days.

I'd rather have more days in June or August than in Nov, personally.
Same reason I never understood why other kids would be so happy about snow days. Like...you know we just lost another bright warm day in June to be stuck at home in cold snowy weather, right?

Maybe that varies. My state and schools on it had snow days set aside. Basically, it we had 5 snow days for the year, that means that if we didn't take more days than that, we didnt have to make up any. And during my senior year, we had tried to not have any extra snow days, but they did. Instead of adding an extra day, they took it from next years days. But as seniors, it didnt matter to me or my friends...

But its a northern state. So, snow days were pretty much inevitable. The reason we were low out senior year was because we had to use them. And it hadnt nowed bad enough to be required. And we used them, but then a blizzard happened. We still went to school for a few days before they decided to take a couple days off...

Ah, yes, the ever popular, highly damaging "if it doesn't affect me, I don't care" mindset. It's all coming together.

If you have 5 snow days built into the schedule, and you only use 4, you shouldn't be staying that extra day. But your school sounds like it had some poor planning going on, so maybe for you that was the case.

Anyway, when it comes to holiday breaks such as this topic, those are known in advance and definitely factored into the school schedule. More holiday time in Nov or around Christmas = less summer break.
No thanks.

For us, snow days are, too. If we didnt take them, then we might get off early. But we never make it through the year without snow days. Its gonna snow. Just depends on what days are really bad. Sometimes, the bad snow only happens on the weekend and is fine back in the weekdays. Whether blizzards or just snow days... but, eh. As far as we are concerned, we know out last day of school. Getting out early would be cool. But we still get out the day we expect to...

The bottom line is, the more snow days you have, the less summer break you get. If 5 are alotted and 7 are used, you stay 2 days later, for the other situation.

I understand the need for snow days. Going to school in those conditions is dangerous or sometimes just impossible. I don't hate them or anything. They're necessary.
I just never understood why other kids would wish for snow so we'd get a snow day. It's a dumb thing to want to happen.

Because I have never seen us get out early from having an extra snow day left. Which happened like once. And, to us, we arent losing any summer since we still get out the scheduled last day. If we had to stay an extra day, that would suck. But getting out on the scheduled last day of school is still good. Which is why we didnt mind snow days. They were going to use them, anyway... Some parents would probably be mad at the school if we got out a week early every year... Haha.

I've only had to make you snow days once and that was the year we missed two weeks in one month from snow.

One school I went to in elementary made us make up days come to think of it but they didn't take it from our summer. We had to go on Saturdays which sucked but we didn't do any work just played board games and shit, teachers didn't wanna be there either.

In the military, I once had to take this class. But we missed some due to snow days, and had to do the Saturday thing. What sucked was we actually had to do work. But it was nice to have a shorter week early on since there was a lot of reading to do...

I think we used to get a week too. And there was at least another week or two off worked into the calendar during other months.

Its been like this for a few years. I prefer having only Thursday and Friday off like last century. Having more days off puts people behind.

In all my years of life, I've never heard it referred to as thanksgiving break.

It's always just "fall break" where I'm from.
