Lot of Christian communities and institutions worldwide.

That's why The Passion made so much money.

To be honest, this kind of movie, it's very rare when it's actually quality. The Conjuring has been a good series overall for the horror/paranormal fan and the genre is very prone to releasing a lot of garbage.

For every good 50+ action/thrillers that release there's maybe one or two good horror films. When one gets released that fans of the genre enjoy, and they don't have as much to pick from, they flock to the rare ones when they hit.

But they flock to the garbage as well. Look at the stupid amounts of money Blumhouse makes with every microbudget bowel movement they put out. And other studios are tripping over themselves to make crap like it.

Yea my wife and I watched it Thursday night. Was legit bored as fuck. Not a single scary scene and everything was so fucking clichd. The Conjuring movies were great but this was fucking terrible.

There have been LOTS of good horror films in this decade. Tons of them were even greenlighted and had wide releases (get out, it follows, the vvitch, you're next, the green room, hereditary, don't breathe). What's one good action movie that's new? Lol :x

John Wick (both), The Raid (both), The Equalizer (2 kinda sucked though), Dredd, etc.

All those actions movies are better than the horror movies you listed as well.

I did hear Dredd and the Raid were both great - but never watched either.

In either case you're all just being typical, ignorant ce and hating horror because you think you're too good for it -- even though action films are even more mindless and full of schlock.

The 10s are a horror revival decade. Things have been objectively good -- from fans perspectives, horror critics perspectives, AND general film critics perspectives

Actually, I quite enjoy horror. After all, I did say I thought Conjuring 1/2 were great. I personally thought Get Out was overrated as fuck. Hereditary was weird and creepy but never found it scary (still enjoyed it but it was really fucking weird). Babadook was one of the worst movies I've ever seen (up there with The Village).

This is honestly a dumb opinion.

Yeah, it was probably a garbage movie, but sometimes people just want to shut off their minds and laugh at a dumb movie. Sometimes, half the fun of a horror movie is how stupid and ridiculous it is.

The Nun isnt that type of bad horror movie. Its boring, badly paced and played completely straight, meaning youre more likely to yawn than laugh.

I was picking up on that as I read the comments, but didn't want to bother deleting the post. I mean, it's CE, I expected it to be Christian hating.

But yeah, I hate horror movies, so I have no problem admitting ignorance on the matter.

I feel like there are two crowds of horror movie fans.

1. those that want to be scared
2. those that want a good plot.

The Nun appeals to the second category. It sets a good tone, the story is well paced, and the movie does a good job of making you unsure about whether or not you are seeing the illusion or the real thing.

Is it a 10/10 horror movie? no. but its a solid 7/10

Since I'll never be a part of group 1, and never understand group 1, if your only objection is the movie didn't scare you I simply will say, you and I like horror movies for very different reasons and end that conversation there.

Lol, The Nun runs out of plot halfway through the movie. The little plot it does have is a rip off of The Exorcist.

The setup is fine and the actors do their best, that's about all the praise I can give it. Seriously, I don't know how anyone can defend that terrible writing.

Yes, but you don't know that until you've already bought your ticket, so it's pretty obviously the result of good marketing.
