It tries to set up a red heiring but isnt convincing enough. Shit ton of reeferences to the books. Nagini has an origin story now as well as other appearances like Nikolas Flimel. A lot of it seemed like it was for fans even if it wasn't a great movie otherwise. I prefer that route over a lot of other sequels where they do the same thing as the first only with more explosions. On a side note, everyone in Newts era seems to be a better wizard than Harry's time. Idk the way I read it it seemed like the blue flames cleared anyone who was committed and loyal to Grindelwald, then attacked and tried to kill anyone who wasn't.
