Yes, actually. I think it's feasible given the advancements in the following technologies:

Voice recognition would allow the game to interpret what we say in real-time and convert it to text. This technology will need to become faster and more accurate, however.

"Learning AI", such as seen on sites like iGod or Cleverbot, will remember things about you and things you say to it, and be able to carry out conversations with you based on data stored from conversations with others. A large database of topics and language could be established before the game's release by the developers simply talking to the AI.

Text-to-speech programs would allow the AI to actually speak back to you whatever responses it thinks up. This technology has seen enormous improvements in recent years already, with some of the more advanced text-to-speech programs sounding almost like real people.

With these three technologies combined, it would theoretically be possible for you to approach an NPC in-game, call it a bitch, and have it crack yo momma jokes, which is honestly where gaming will peak as a form of entertainment.

It would make RPG'S fucking amazing.
