It's worthless if you have even the most limited knowledge of horror due to the format. There isn't enough time to delve into the genres properly let alone touching upon all of the most influential films. As a clip show, it's outclassed by Bravo's Top 100 Scariest Moments which manages to showcase more titles. Yet the most bothersome aspect is how it tries to explore how horror movies reflect the society and culture of their times with zero depth. For example, it's mentioned how The Texas Chain Saw Massacre reflected the state of the country during the Vietnam War? Ok, that's a bold statement and I'm interested in hearing more, but that's all that's mentioned.

A better documentary that's only around 70 minutes is 2000's The American Nightmare.

I wish they went more in depth too. They hit most of the influential films but they only scratched the surface. It was nice to see Tarantino praise The Exorcist so much, and I'm glad they mentioned The Changeling because that's one of the most underrated horror movies I've ever seen.

Totally agree on The Changeling. So glad to see it finally get the high definition treatment this year (even if the BD is messed up a little).

I did enjoy seeing Steve Miner (director of Friday the 13th Part 2 and 3) show up to speak. Until a couple of years ago, he usually kept quiet about horror films. I could have done without Jack Black's thoughts, though.

What has Roth really done for horror? I'm not a huge fan of his. All I know is that he did that cheesy flick with Rider Strong, (Cabin Fever maybe?) and the Hostile films, which were stupid as fuck and mostly responsible for the torture porn genre. Oh, and he was Inglorious Basterds, IIRC, but I hated that movie and I don't think that really gives him horror cred.

Is he really well respected by horror fans?
