Yeah no I'm sure gassing innocent people is totally justified and not Nazi like at all.

you do know there is a difference between teargas and cyklon b, right?

Madfoot, I'm not interested in the finer details of genocide tnx

Teargas is not really going to kill anyone. I have seen men stand in a closed room and breath it without any problem.

It's not a good option when children are involved. Detain and process their asylum claims. We should have had the infrastructure to do this decades ago.

The problem with that is they never tried to seek asylum..... they tried to enter the country illegally, which ya know, is against the law, much like the crimes they committed in Mexico.

Can you name those crimes? Which crimes, and by whom?

They can't seek asylum if they can't set foot into the damn country.

Regardless of the fact that we've had a deep role in the crisis in Honduras, my point stands alone that instead of attempting to orderly deal with this caravan, we instead demonized, stoked fear, and sent military troops in a vapid show of force.

We've done everything in our power to make these refugees hated.

And I say again, we have the gall to be appalled at the actions of powerless and desperate people.

The problem is that the application process is already like 6+ months to hear back and there's already a few thousand at the gates. Who's going to house them for the half year or more it'll take to get processed, and who takes them if they're denied? "Catch and release" doesn't work in the US because they just flee and are never seen again, but Tijuana is also struggling to support them. What are these people going to do while they're waiting to hear back? And if they DO get caught on the US side, are people going to flip shit again when they get put in detention centers because there's nowhere else to house them?

So if there was such concern about them entering illegally, with so much advance notice, why couldnt resources be allocated to set up efficient and humane processes and temporary facilities with which to review and process them as potential citizens or visa holders through the correct legal channels

It would have been a hell of a lot cheaper to do so btw

Our system is set up to deal with a steady trickle of cases, not a seasonal wave of what is nearing 10,000 people who aren't going to wait around for an answer. Plus let's not pretend if they got put into "temporary facilities" for months you wouldn't be calling them concentration camps.

Conservatives love to brag about the fake job numbers and GDP growth. How about we start measuring success by how many people don't have access to healthcare in the richest country of the world. Or how many people live paycheck to paycheck or are in poverty.

I'm sure the people in those caravans that don't speak English or have any sort of accredited university education are going to fill all those "unfilled" jobs. It's not uncommon for people with college degrees to still be fighting for a living wage and access to healthcare.

Canada would be a much safer option for them.

https://cliniclegal.org/sites/default/files/Denied-a-Day-in-Court.pdf

Contrary to the narrative that families purposely abscond from immigration court, ASAP and CLINICs clients all had legitimate reasons for being unable to attend their hearings, including lack of notice, incorrect government information, serious medical problems, language barriers, and severe trauma or disabilities. Importantly, ASAP and CLINICs clients represented nationals from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras who had received removal orders from 15 different immigration courts. Most of these families were alerted to their removal orders by prior pro bono counsel who represented them while they were in detention, and who then connected them with ASAP and CLINICs services. The other families sought general information about asylum from ASAP and CLINIC, leading them to realize they had missed a hearing. Once families became aware of their in absentia removal orders, they overwhelmingly sought to reopen their cases to seek asylum.
