Nah, you just got mad.

He says, sweating profusely. In one hand he clutches a picture of Alex Jones, in the other a Presidential Coin for the 45th president Donald J Trump. Blood trickles from cuts on his face which he has been using to type. And then when they least expect it, he jumps onto an alt nobody has seen before, an old account with nearly 500 karma and shouts "Take that liberals!"

You're a sad person madfoot.

It is in the open air and they can just stop trying to get into our country illegally.

This is entirely a crisis of our own making. We place every conceivable obstacle in the path of orderly legal migration and have the gall to be appalled when people are no longer willing to take our shit.

Its not like america asked for refugees to try to enter their country... there is someone you can put 100% of the blame on, but its not america for enforcing their borders.

And btw, they arent "fleeing to safety to get away from the problems of their home country". They are "bringing all their problems with them to ruin other countries as well."

No, but as has been demonstrated already, America has been a bit if an enabler in destabilizing this region. In fact, the US has worked hard to shit on pretty much every Latin American country for their own personal gain. They really are partly to blame for how things are.

These folks were offered asylum in Mexico and did not take it. They do not meet the qualifications to seek asylum in the US. The men in this caravan were throwing rocks and pushing women and children to the front lines, what do you think is gonna happen when you break through the fence and attacking border patrol agents?

Mexico does not want them and the US does not want them. Deport them back to Central America!

there are children that got tear gassed, obviously this is fucked up. just let these people apply for asylum like the process allows for and accept/deny appropriately

There's nothing stopping them from applying. Some ARE applying. The problem is that the application process is already like 6+ months to hear back and there's already a few thousand at the gates. Who's going to house them for the half year or more it'll take to get processed, and who takes them if they're denied? "Catch and release" doesn't work in the US because they just flee and are never seen again, but Tijuana is also struggling to support them. What are these people going to do while they're waiting to hear back? And if they DO get caught on the US side, are people going to flip shit again when they get put in detention centers because there's nowhere else to house them?

This got glossed over, as no one had an answer for it.

Properly fixing the immigration system takes away a major issue that the people can be kept rallied against each other over. Nobody in power wants that.

Except it's a two way system. No amount of improvements on our end will speed up background checks that require other countries to participate. It turns out that "where are you from" is a hard answer to prove

#186. I responded specifically to his assertion that "catch and release doesn't work". It's true that it "doesn't work", but not really for the reason most people on the right like to imply. It's not that people try to hide, it's that the system is really bad at notifying them properly.

This may come as a surprise, but first they tried saying they're seeking asylum. You don't get asylum by passing thru a country that offered it to get to one you like better. Thus, they are migrants, they can go through the proper process. If they want to act like an unruly mob? Fuck em tbh, send them home

The official ruling on Refugee law, below, leaves it up to individual countries to determine how to enforce asylum claims. The EU has the Dublin regulation, for example, which requires migrants to seek asylum in the first valid country they enter.
https://ijrcenter.org/refugee-law/

Similarly, the US and Canada have an agreement that says the same thing:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/
corporate/mandate/policies-operational-instructions-agreements/
agreements/safe-third-country-agreement.html

The gray area here is that Mexico has refused in the past to sign on with that agreement, but international law allows for the US to maintain that rule even if Mexico doesn't participate, as long as Mexico is considered a valid destination.

In other words, as long as they are not fleeing Mexico, the US has every legal right to deny them a claim on the basis that they are in a country that could process it. And this is a rule that extends not only to Canada, but the entirety of the EU.

Gotcha, so this is not an absolute, but it is allowable for the US to deny entry based on this. The US is not forced to deny entry to those who didn't accept asylum offerings in another country, but they can turn them away on that basis.

But we still can accept them, correct?

Or, yknow, maybe Im a Libertarian who rightfully doesnt trust our corrupt government and more importantly, our corrupt media which is run by liberals who want socialism, higher taxes, open borders, the destruction of the middle class, and more government control and oversight over everything?
I value personal liberty and freedom, and being responsible with our spending, and I think taxation is theft. Im also not game for letting people freely come into our country without respecting the legal process.

And that has never been a universal sentiment in America either. Some groups of immigrants were not welcomed with open arms initially and were often oppressed (namely the Irish and Chinese). The only reason why the poem is enshrined there is because the poet who wrote it did so to help raise funds for the pedestal for the statue. That's all. Just like how a major donor for a building may have the building named after them, the lady's poem that helped raise funds for the construction of the statue's pedestal is immortalized there.

Says the guy advocating for those attempting to illegally cross the border because sitting tight while waiting for their request for asylum to be processed is going to take awhile (ports of entry can only handle around 100 asylum-seekers per day, meaning it will take about 50 days to handle just the early arrivals unless they are willing to trek to a different port).

Yeah two things:

1) If this administration gave a damn, it would have sent more people with skills to process the migrants, rather than military troops.

2) Waiting for processing is far more humane than sending them back to their own violence-ridden country.
