We've been together for four years, and done next to no traveling.

Somewhere with recreational is a plus.

Thinking LA but nothing set in stone.

We want beaches, some city life, hiking, etc

southern california is a solid choice as long as you are cool with driving around a lot to get to beaches & shit. all the good ones are like an hour drive from LA

Hawaii would be great, but wed potentially be spending half of our trip traveling.

Probably only have 3-5 days

I went to Palm Springs CA a few years back. We visited LA while we were there; it was about an hour or so drive. SoCal is always a solid choice.

i strongly recommend not going to hawaii. you'll probably have to spend like 12 hours on a play (not including the length of layovers) and then the time difference will fuck with you. i went to maui for my honeymoon and my wife & i pretty much slept through a whole day because of the 5hr different from the east coast.

that being said, hawaii is amazing. go there when you have at least week to spend. it's too expensive and difficult to get to to for 3 - 5 days.

my suggestion is to do the southern california trip. if you want a cool island vibe, spend a day on Catalina Island. you can take a ferry there from Long Beach

Yeah, Im thinking the same. Getting there and back would eat up too much time. Id love to go eventually, but not this year.

Santa Monica is great, good vibes in that place. Nice beach, loads of chill drinking and food places (some great seafood spots). LA only an hour away.

I would recommend Costa Rica. Southwest does some really cheap flights out there if you book far enough in advance. Talking like 300-400 round trip, which is great for international

There is minimal time change and it is beautiful. Been there twice now and cant wait to go back

Is English your only fluent language? Were you able to navigate decently?

Yeah tourism is their biggest industry so it is easy to get by speaking only english. I know a bit of Spanish which was helpful but not necessary
