https://www.yahoo.com/news/mexico-immediately-deport-500-migrants-000200133.html

Mexico has said it will immediately deport up to 500 migrants from Central America who violently and illegally sought to cross the US border pushing past Mexican people and causing US agents to fire tear gas to disperse them.

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency suspended all crossings at the San Diego-Tijuana entry point, after hundreds of migrants stormed their way through a blockade of Mexican police and a small number sought to open a space in a roll of razor wire.

With the Mexican police overwhelmed, US agents dispersed the migrants by firing or throwing tear gas. Images taken at the location showed clouds of tear gas hanging in the air, and people moving away from the border.

The crossing remained closed for several hours.

As the demonstrations on the Mexican side reached the border area, some members of the demonstration split off to head towards multiple locations along the border, the CBP said in a statement.

Some attempted to enter the US both directly east and west of the border crossing. These attempts to illegally enter the US, and the response to them continue.

Officials later said they were reopening foot crossings at the entry point, said to be the busiest such place in the world and where 90,000 enter the US every day, most of them day labourers.

Meanwhile, Mexicos interior ministry said it had retaken control of its side of the border crossing and would, in conjunction with the national institute of migration, the government agency responsible for controlling who is permitted to enter the country, deport up to 500 people who participated in these violent events. It said rather than helping the migrants objectives, the provocative acts had violated the legal migration framework...

Surprised they even let them in Mexico in the first place. How they couldn't see that this would become their problem is beyond me.

If you're going to try a direct crossing San Ysidro might be the worst place to try it. I've crossed that border on foot and it is fortified.

There is nothing stopping them from entering the legal way, if they were honest about starting a new life they would do it the right way not by rushing the border and trying to enter illegally.

well, there's our immigration policies which generally are not long-term favorable to unskilled workers.

those who add value and apply for asylum will likely get it. those who do not, won't, and will be choosing between applying in mexico and doing this again with the risk of being sent directly home.

I think thay is reasonable, why should we take in people with no skill or nothing of value to add to our country ?

Citizenship is a privilege, not a right. There are people all over the world who would like to come to America, but they don't have the privilege of living next door like Mexicans do.

intellectual dishonesty here at its finest.

"There's nothing stopping them"

"..they should not be able to enter...we should not accept them"

So you claim nothing stops them, and then say that they ARE stopped by legal channels, and that this is what should happen. What happened to nothing is stopping them, when you in fact say that we are and should stop them...

@Fam_Fam

The requirement to enter being having a skill or something to contribute to the US is a basic requirement almost anyone has. That is a low as fuck bar to pass, if a person cant meet that standard and has nothing at all to contribute to the country they should NOT be allowed to freeload. We have enough lazy native population, legal citizens who refuse to get a job, why the hell should we accept outsiders who also want to be lazy freeloaders ?

We cant kick out our own lazy people but nothing says we have to or should take in foreign lazy people.

i never said we had to take in anyone. but you claimed there's no barrier, and then just decided to change your mind about that. it seems like there are some pretty established conditions that prevent many people from entering legally. which is why people do it illegally. because they still want to get in to improve their lives

I don't think you quite understand what it means to "be able to contribute" to the US. Just because someone is deemed "not able to contribute" means they are lazy freeloaders.

I have family in Honduras who have tried on numerous occasions to apply for legal citizenship. My family consists of teachers, electricians, and office workers. They work hard and have a decent education. But they are poor, and that's the main reason they continue to be denied entry. Being poor is apparently enough of a reason to deem someone "not able to contribute to the US".

Although they have skills that they could apply in the US and plan to do so (considering the teacher and electrician shortages in various states), the government primarily wants people with money and connections. I know this because I know of other people in the area that were approved easily, whom really are lazy freeloaders but happen to be trust fund babies in their country.

Lol Im just being a wise ass. 95% of the caravan was men and they wouldnt have contributed anything and committed crimes against people and property once they reached the US. Just like they did in Mexico lol.

What I said originally was the narrative before midterms, if you disagreed then you mustve been a racist.

I would like to add to this, my ex-wife came to this country from Honduras, and her family was one of that had money and connections there, including family in high-level government positions. If I said her family name, @Zanzenburger, you would probably know it. Corrupt people. Criminals. They all entered the US easily. Every part of the immigration system is broken.

Exactly.

People not involved with the immigration system don't realize just how bad it is, and then wonder why people try more extreme measures like seeking asylum through the caravan or illegal crossings.

And yet no one is having a serious conversation about how to restructure our immigration system so that it is more fair and workable. It's easier to just assume that the system is fine as it is and people just choose not to use it and find a workaround.

The people in the caravan are willingly putting themselves and their children in harm's way in an attempt to get into the US. That's how bad it is in their country. That's how desperate they are. They didn't just wake up one day and decide to leave their life behind because they are bored. People don't seem to understand what desperation can do to a person.
