And what happened yesterday sincerely broke my heart.

Yesterday, I had a group of older men come in to my bar and empty what looked like their entire wallets on the counter with a couple credit cards and gift cards. Its usually a trend to see guys come in and buy a few beers or what have you and the interaction between myself explaining to customers what they're for and their wives looks of disbelief is usually what makes my day. This wasn't one of those scenarios.

These guys had to have been over 50, dropping around $60-$100. I jokingly asked what they were buying, and without hesitation perked up and said SHOTS. I explained to them how I'm so used to men buying a few beers and they began to exclaim their hatred for beer and how it's "Old" and a "waste of money."

They then went on to tell me the "benefits" of Shots, On the Rocks Whiskey and Mixed Drinks stating how this was such a good investment as Hard Liquor is more "worth it."

This is poison.

Of course it's not my place to discourage sales or speak out of turn, so I let them carry on with their happy day as I once remembered when I drank liquor. I thought to myself how these guys are gonna go off and spend such a big sum of money on Hard Liquor they'll maybe see for 5-10% of their daily life excluding throwing it up the next day. I remember being in their exact spot going to the bar to buy a few beers. That only racked up to about $20 as well. Really puts into perspective how much has changed. I hope we see some serious change soon, as rare of a chance it'll be.

TL;DR (Some) Guys are buying Hard Liquor over Beer now to get with the latest trend and are incapable of seeing how bad of an investment it is we have now compared to the glory days of MoonShine.
