I mean, if it was popular enough that a name developed for it, there's probably a net profit.

That being said, I know in East Asia, this is a thing they make you do in at least one prison. Essentially, you sit on a pipe coming from some filthy river, with a section in front of you that you pick out anything that looks valuable.

It wasnt meant to be glamourous. It was poor kids doing anything they could to eke out a living. It was probably better than being a tosher (a kid who scavenged in sewers).
