A lot of vocalists seem to have been cucked by the standard american accent and do what they can to replicate it in their styling for wider appeal. As an aside- even schools that teach English in English minority countries have a strong preference for american accents over others from what I have heard. Is the american accent being defacto and default something that came about after WWII?

Not saying this doesn't happen, but at least to me most of the UK/NZ/AU bands I've heard still had their accents for the most part. Maybe I can just notice it easier or something or maybe it's just the music I listen to.
