Here is a good article comparing the two games. Music is pretty debatable, although can't argue how awesome MMX ability to climb walls is.

Originals in both character and series.
X is also great. Basically, Mega Man is the Jordan or Lemieux and X is the Pippen or Jagr. I actually like a few MM games, but just hate the character...If I had to choose then OG MM I think.
