Finally asked her out in 12th grade she said yes but every time I called to arrange a date she had an excuse not to go. Eventually I found out 3 months later through her friend that she had a boyfriend the entire time but said yes because she knew I liked her and didn't want me to get hurt. Well guess what? What actually ended up happening hurt me a whole bunch more then if you had just said no.

I was an asexual idiot most of high school so by the time I became interested in dating I had no experience. I was basically a level 1 surrounded by level 50s.

I can relate man, I was led on by a girl much in the same way although she didn't have a boyfriend. Then every time I would pull away, she would get upset and ask me not to give up on her. Looking back on it now, I imagine I was just a placeholder or a last resort if it didn't work out with her own crushes. That, or she just liked the attention and then when a "better" guy was giving her attention suddenly I didn't exist again. Then I'd be like "Okay, guess I'm moving on now" and I'd get the "Don't give up on me." Ugh, haha.

It was a good learning experience in the sense that if a girl can't get her shit together (IE: actually find time to go on a date) I quickly assume that she isn't interested and stop making an effort to make things happen. I might write women off a bit too quickly now, but I no longer have the patience for those games. If she's not available or she's luke warm I know she's not into me, so I walk away.
