Now that the N9 has been broken I'd just like to see a bracket with their members (aside from Link) going against the rest of the field. No Legends bracket, just a regular one.

Put the likes of Luigi, Tifa, MMX, Vivi, Kirby etc against the Sonics and the Pikachus just to see how they fare.

Isn't MWC one of the biggest Link supporters out there

You can't really complain about Mario's character while being a hardcore Link supporter. That double standard is way too glaring.

I kinda think Mario may wind up being Link levels of dominant in a Linkless bracket since anyone strong enough to take him down just gets Hierarchy'd. But let's see how he does against Samus.

Let's wait until Mario vs Samus, which is probably the most important match in the legends bracket since it tests out how rigid the Nintendo hierarchy is. If Samus beats Mario tonight, then things will get real interesting.

Link faces no external threats anymore and only has to fear a coup from below.

The bonus poll is clearly a joke, but does beg the question, what exactly is "classic" Link? People seem to forget he was always "young" Link until Ocarina of Time, when one of the draws of the game was seeing what an adult Link would look like. (Smash Bros. using the adult version, and Melee labeling his child form as "Young Link" probably cemented the idea in people's minds.)

Link was literally just as old or older in AoL and LA.

Its debatable how old he is in LoZ and AlLttP, but certainly older than OoT child Link. And probably pretty close to OoT adult Link

I remember reading that Miyamoto had said Link was always a child before OoT, which was why he was in Majora and Wind Waker. Too busy to look it up.

Link/LoZ has historically been one of the worst options to stop a rally (0-3 against them). He and OoT are probably the biggest test those rally entries have run up against, but they are also at absolutely their most determined when they face him.

Regarding this match... no matter how pathetic it sounds, this beatdown from my boy against one of my lesser liked characters is one of the best birthday gifts I could ever hope to receive. Thing of BEAUTY watching the Hyrule Hammer in good form, though for those who missed it, it's still incomparable to the old days when he'd put up EIGHTY ONE PERCENT against Yoshi.

If Link marches through this bracket in his sleep, which he is looking likely to do, I'd be in favor of retiring him completely from the next CB, save for the final bonus poll against the bracket champ (it doesn't even need to count for points, though it can). I also think we can have a much smaller tournament of champions by excluding only Mario, Samus, and Cloud - akin to 2005. Everyone else should be in the main bracket because they are clearly fair game, though I suppose the idea of Zelda being a top threat to win a contest might be unpalatable to many.

I would support just excluding all 20th century Nintendo and Square characters.

Analysis

This match received a lot of hype during the break, though most of us suspected it would happen a little later in the contest. Even as Zelda defeated Solid Snake there was still some talk about Sonic holding on, maybe Solid Snake is that weak, Metal Gear characters did perform poorly after all. Solid Snake would then go on to break 60% against Auron, sure Auron had a terrible picture, but he was facing Solid ****.

The only other explanation for Snakes turn-around would be Smash Bros. SFF between Zelda and Solid Snake and if thats true then Sonic isnt going to be in any better shape. I think it is time to come to terms that Zelda has moved up to Mario/Samus tier or at the very least, is approaching it. Speaking of SFF we could see some here as well. Link did break 70% against Sonic in 2010 so we could see Zelda easily break 60% on him.

Analysis

Mario easily wins, its the Nintendo hierarchy after all. Could Samus ever become victorious against Mario? Hierarchies do change over time, but in this case, it would be quite difficult. Maybe if Metroid Prime 4 and 5 are the greatest games ever and Mario had a couple of flops people may change their tune, but whether that ever happens will remain to be seen.

What is a bit exciting about this match is that we will get our first undeniable proof of the existence of rSFF. With Tifa defeating Sephiroth in the losers bracket the stats would suggest a Samus victory over Mario. Should Mario win then the only explanation would be rSFF with either Samus being indirectly stronger than Mario or Sephiroth being indirectly stronger than Tifa.
