Been playing kill team lately to take a break from the scale of 40k and AoS. Its a lot easier to get a well painted Killteam on the table than 2k points of the big games. I like kill team, but I think it has some mechanical issues that get overlooked a lot.

Kill team isn't so bad actually. You buy one or two boxes and you're good to go.

Both it and 40k do, but I appreciate the price and time difference for it. So insanely fun so far!

I'm deep into the lore, but the game is too expensive and time consuming.

Look into kill team. Most armies you can buy a single box(typical cost is $30-60 per faction) and the games run about a half hour.

I'd have to find people to play with or travel to a place for that, and these games never stick to the core being viable. People think DLC is bad.

It is certainly a lot of fun. I'm currently running a Deathwatch killteam in a local league and its going pretty well. I played a 4 player game yesterday and a thousand sons player rolled perils on his smite, used a reroll and still ended up with perils. The resulting explosion took his leader and two Rubric marines out before we even reached the first shooting phase. Stuff like that makes for a fun story, even if not the most competitive game.

I've got Grey knights, I'm sure I'll know that pain, lol

Grey Knights seem like a great team. Cheap to get started, they look great, and every single model can hold its own at range and in a fight. I was actually going to play them, but none of the local shops had them in stock, so deathwatch took their place.
