How do I do this shit for nine hours a day, five days a week.

Why did humans decide it was okay to just dedicate almost all of their fucking lives to some arbitrary shit like this.

The worst part is waking up early in the morning to go to work (imo)

if you were somehow able to "live off of the land" and were self-sufficient, do you think you could keep yourself alive (water, food, shelter, etc) working less than 40 hours/week?

This is actually a really deep question.

Short answer is no I think.

Food is just a small portion of it, imagine having to build your own transportation, cell phone, electricity, wind, etc.

Capitalism is actually pretty cool from that angle. Great question!

Probably on average yeah, but from what I understand the big difference is that the work would be unevenly distributed throughout the year

So like during planting and harvest season you work like 60 hours a week but then there's an enormous part of the year where you just whittle clocks cuz its cold outside

Yeah, work sucks.

Up until now, I've worked jobs that paid relatively little (comparable to the position responsibilities) but gave me lots of flexibility over the hours that I worked. Plus, being higher education, we also got additional days off than just holidays like Fall Break and Spring Break and Fridays off in summer.

But my new job pays significantly more (double what my last job pays) but it has a more traditional 8-5 schedule and it suuuucks. I've never hated Mondays before until working this job. Weekends go by too quickly and consists of me either choosing to actually relax with my wife or catch up on chores like mowing, laundry, cleaning, etc.

This weekend we chose relaxing meaning that now I have double the work ahead of me next weekend.

I need some of my side investments to mature so I can get out of this working environment soon.

Since I work at a public school I get a lot of paid days off. For example, I will have 2 weeks off for Christmas break, and I will still make the same amount of money. Summer break is the best, almost 3 months off
