It's probably not appropriate and even if it was that type of movie would bore most 7 year old kids I know. It's a pretty damn slow movie all things considered and while it's a great movie it's basically the opposite of 99% of kids movies even if you cut out all the violent scenes.

Apart from a couple scenes where characters are murdered most of the film is not graphic violence or swearing or anything that would warrant a modern R rating. But it's a slow gangster drama. Yeah, totally. I watched it when I was that age, along with Halloween and a bunch of other classic films.
