The missions that fucked me up from my first playthrough I didn't have trouble with this time

but some other missions fucked me up that I don't remember having difficulty with the first time

Like I did Freefall first try on my latest playthrough and I swear it took me a good 20 tries when I played it two years ago

meanwhile I think I did Vertical Bird my first try before and now this playthrough it took me like 7 tries

Speaking of missions, fuck Supply Lines. I was playing it in the PS2 version so the fuel bar is still there and It took me like 10 tries to finish the damn thing. There's also that Las Venturas mission that is literally impossible if you did the riot cheat.

Still 10/10 game tho.

That's what I did my last play thru about a year ago on pc. I always tried to do that on ps2 but smoke was a terrible shot.

I always felt like that mission was about finding the sweet spot where all his shots hit. That's what I did.

That's what I did my last play thru about a year ago on pc. I always tried to do that on ps2 but smoke was a terrible shot.

I never once bothered doing it "right".

I left smoke on the bridge and shot them myself.

did you have any mods installed?
installing mods requires you to downgrade to version 1.0, this also downgrades the handling.cfg for the plane used in that mission so that if you miss the ring on your approach it's next to impossible to catch up, or it may in fact be impossible to catch up to it, I forget which

the fuel bar is always there regardless of which version you're playing. the key difference is the fuel bar will only go down when accelerating in "fixed" versions. also beating zeros missions aren't required to complete the gam

Yeah, I did the mission just to get the 100%. Probably wouldn't do that if I'm just replaying for fun; not even in the fixed version.

There's this certain distance between yourself and the bike you need to find and Smoke will gun them down easy. I'd say keep around a car and a half distance between yourself and the train? In my head I can picture it perfectly. Haven't had an issue with that mission since.

my trouble mission was always "air raid," which may be due in part to in all but one playthroughs I downgraded. it isn't anything to do with the mission itself but it seemed like well over half the time that mission would cause a crash, either during the mission or after. cj would be left with a bugged minigun and attempting to do much of anything with it, even switching off of it, caused a crash.
I don't know what it is about that mission that causes it to be especially buggy

Oddly, I have my original copy of the game, purchased on release day (I wanna say October 16, 04?) And I have never had any crashing issues or loading issues.

You just have to be on the far side of the opposing track. Last time I played, I stuck to that and Smoke killed them before it even got to the tunnel.

I think the problem with the mission is that a lot of people (myself included) were naturally inclined to stick as close to the train as possible and that just blocks Smoke's shots.

It's weird how one of my most vivid memories of San Andreas was the frustration I felt with the flight school

And again I find myself going "really? Huh. . . " Regarding the schools.

Driving school was only difficult for two tests. Barrel roll and the two wheels test. Both of those have a real margin of entropy in the exam. The handling is somewhat inconsistent, but the end result must be exact.

The flight school was piss easy. I've always golded both as soon as they became available. Bike school was so simple it's plain forgettable.

City slickers is simple if you take the time to plan your route.

I don't know what it is about burn and lap that makes it so hard. on paper it sounds easy as hell and shouldn't be a problem, in practice it's one of those things in a game where you're doomed to constantly restart and do comparatively worse than your first attempt due to how on paper it should be easy. talking about going for gold obviously.
at least with city slicking it has the randomness factor of traffic, also it never gives me half as much trouble and burn and lap.
all gold in flight school never gave me much trouble either, even with kb+m controls.

City Slickers was obnoxious because you were at the mercy of the traffic. Even if you drive perfectly and have the best route, you can still be fucked if a random car decides to barrel into you.

I think it's just that it's a very tight time limit for gold and the Banshee's not designed to turn that way.

I actually think my racing game history (my entire gaming life has never strayed far from racing games in their various forms, arcade or sim, for long in the last 20 years) is why I had little issue with the schools.

You think this shit is hard? Get all holds in Gran Turismo 4s license exams or driving missions.

I will say that the schools aren't really unfair (except a little bit City Slickers). As a kid, I had a lot of trouble with flight and driving school. Flight school being required meant I was just stuck at that point for about a week. When I played it a few years ago, I found it much, much easier. Blitzed through flight school, only had a little trouble on getting gold.

So skill definitely has a hand in it.

i find city slickers to be hard when you do it in tough conditions....ie raining during the day....try it at like 1 in the morning and dont be afraid to try a different path home then the one you took there
