"Comedy" must mean something completely different to me than it does to other people.

Which maybe isn't surprising because I remember objecting to people describing Tada Never Falls in Love as a comedy earlier in the year. (In fairness, I probably would now say that is an accurate description in this case...)

I never found Tada to be remotely funny but it at least wanted to be a comedy, in addition to other genres it also failed at.

I think what's actually getting us stuck up here is the idea of these shows being A comedy. These shows have comedy, comedy is a genre that makes up their DNA, but obviously they're more than the sum of their parts.

Asobi Asobase is A comedy.

Zombieland Saga contains comedy. Same with Love Live. I would call these shows comedies.

Yes, I can agree with this.

I use "comedy" to refer exclusively to shows in the former category and sometimes to shows that might better be described as a romantic comedy depending on how important the comedic aspects are.

For the record, where I'm coming from here is that to first order every show ever made has some comedy in it, and so it only makes sense to me to describe a show as a comedy if being funny is a primary aim of the show.

I haven't been as into S2 as S1, for whatever reason. I should try and finish S2 sometime, but the second half of the second season has felt a bit lacking in creativity? I dunno.

Man Devilman Crybaby is so good. I think the last time a show impressed me in quite this way was...probably Madoka? I don't know.

Assuming it doesn't drop the ball in the second half, this would have been AotY in most other years (for sure last year). But this year...I don't know. I don't think this is going to top Sora Yori. And Bloom Into You is also really good.

Side note: You could make a video clip that has nothing except for the rap scenes from Devilman and it would still have more artistic merit than like 80% of anime or something like that.

It's really looking like it's gonna be either Sora Yori or Devilman for me, too. It's a really tough call because I'm torn between feeling like Devilman deserves #1 versus Antarctica being the one that...I THINK I actually liked more. With so little time left in the year and so many shows to finish up, I don't have time to go back to re-watch, either.

Rightstuf is selling upcoming copies of Xam'd on bluray, complete series, for $15. I assume a reprint. Usually $90, currently selling everywhere for over $120 because it's not in print. Not available for streaming anywhere, including the Playstation store where it was originally an exclusive. Unlikely it will be licensed to stream anywhere anytime soon.

It may be no Eureka Seven, but I'll be fucked if that's not a deal to jump on. Hell, you should buy this just to flip at a nice profit once the sale ends even if you don't give a shit. It's pretty decent either way.

It's time for shows from this season to start finishing, and the first one I completed was The Girl in Twilight since I got caught up on it this weekend and enjoyed it enough to stay up late and catch the final episode right when it came out. I'll spoil the basic premise below but it's nothing you wouldn't know from watching episode one, I'm just mentioning that as a warning in case anyone is planning to watch it and wants to go in blind to be pleasantly surprised like I was.

Anyway, there were a lot of elements about this that appealed to me. I liked all of the characters, particularly Asuka. I'm sure a lot of people would find her annoying but I love high-energy cheerful types like her, and I liked the depth her backstory reached. The other characters grew on me a lot over the course of the story, too. I also love parallel worlds as a concept since they open up a lot of options for exploring characters in different situations, and this anime certainly explored some unique situations! The action scenes were also consistently impressive too, I enjoyed the use of CGI in them.

However, The Girl in Twilight wasn't perfect. I enjoyed every single one of the adventures individually, but I feel like there was something missing for the overall whole to really come together into something special. I'm not asking for scientific technobabble about the parallel worlds, but the characters took everything in stride a bit too much, and several things I wanted to see addressed never were. Still, that's a minor complaint, and is mostly just a fancy way of saying that they shot for a different tone than the more serious one I would have preferred. The Girl in Twilight was still a fun anime with a lot of nice moments, and I'm glad I watched it.

Yeah, I imagine best female character would cover 90% of waifus. The only exception would be attractive non-characters. Nana from Sunohara-sou was probably the hottest girl of the year... but even then there were far better characters who were also good looking.

Still, include the category if you want. I'm in favor of as many categories as possible. I want Best Anime Hair so I can vote for the girl who was in one frame of Zombieland Saga who shaped her hair into a giant bird.
