Kevin hart sucks and i refuse to watch his movies. That being said, i saw the tweets from what....2008? They are tame and its a fucking shame hes gonna get his career ruined over it

I remember when he said that. The things he said were really hurtful. Those are the kinds of things every gay kid is terrified their parents might be thinking. I used to be afraid my parents thought that about me. And even when they told me they didn't mind, the thoughts persisted that they secretly felt that way. By making those jokes, he was giving gay people a reason to fear being honest about ourselves. If I had been closeted and I heard him make those jokes, it would have made me feel shame and want to stay closeted out of fear.

If he has genuinely shown remorse for those and knows why it was wrong, I guess I'd be fine with him hosting. But I'm not exactly mourning the loss of Kevin Hart.

I think it's funny how yesterday people were all talking about how crappy he'll be at hosting, just a bunch of short jokes. And now suddenly I see a lot of comments about how he would have been great.

I like the Oscars themselves. They're fun as peer-given awards and it's cool to see well-deserved awards go out like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Fury Road winning editing. When interesting stuff like Django winning screenplay or Innaritu winning director twice in a row, fine. I like when stuff I like wins because the Oscars can move and shake the industry. But overall the race is too political in that you have to campaign for it and every year only a few movies of the ones even nominated have a chance of winning. Then dear god the actual ceremony. Cut the tributes to Hollywood past, cut all musical performances, nobody cares. Get it down to 2 hours and we can even discuss me watching it. So basically yeah, just tell me who won but I do care.

I mean, that's a pretty crazy strawman. Obviously no one is saying that enjoyment is entirely based on unrelated views of a person, but most artforms tend to reflect the person creating them. Comedy is especially centered around the personality of the comedian. Like, you wouldn't assume that George Carlin was a super patriotic, ultra-religious conservative, or that Seinfeld is a polite, unobservant man who hates sarcasm, or that Sarah Silverman is a super religious, prim and proper lady who despises blue humor in real life. What is especially weird about that argument is that the comments themselves are being defended as 'jokes', so the controversial statements are literally part of his work.
