I feel like tons of people feel this way.

shame he got sacked because of a sentiment like this.

Once again I'm bi. And I can't really blame him for feeling that way. Most parents would choose to give their kid a easier life if they could. So until bigotry and bullying is gone (never will be) I can't hold it against a parent to have that mindset as long as they don't try sending them to conversion therapy or some shit.

And if we got to the point where we could change it before the kid is born I'd oppose it sure, but I understand the desire.

It's an incredibly shitty take tbqh, as preventing one's son from being gay heavily implies that being gay is a choice

I find it funny people who bitch about the Oscar's and have for the last 3 years or so are now getting outraged on behalf of Kevin Hart.

Especially guys like Proud tapping into his inner fashy and calling for a watch list for his political enemies.

They should have RDJ and Chris Evans host it together. This would get more people watching than the past 10 years.

It's just funny because all these people acting outraged that Kevin Hart stepped aside, likely because he didn't want to deal with the questions around it, are clearly just faking it and are just using this to push their whole "muh ESS JAY DUBS are ruining society " shit.

They don't actually give a shit and are faking outrage just as bad as the otherside and don't even realize it.

I honestly don't care either way. I never watch the Oscar's, don't find Kevin Hart funny, think digging through old tweets is dumb, think what Hart said is dumb, and think being a celebrity on a global level and not scrubbing your social media history when you see this shit happening all the time is dumb.

It's a fake controversy drummed up by fake outrage from both sides.

social media was a mistake

@AlephZero

I have to strongly agree with you. The sad part is, back in the early 2000's when MySpace was in it's early years and also the largest social media site and Facebook was a niche site that was exclusive to only college students at the time and Twitter wasn't even created yet, I thought to myself that social media was a great idea since it would connect people in a wonderful way and the world would be better with everyone having easier communication with each other. That has proven to be a very highly incorrect thought in recent years, especially with the rise of this SJW bullshit. The scary part is that back in 2009, there was some guy on Youtube warning about what would eventually be named SJWs and how (at the time) while their outrage culture / offended by everything movement was small, they were a potential threat to grow into a very dangerous vocal minority. No one listened to him / didn't believe it was a serious threat and just trolled him in the comments. Now look where we are today.

Homophonic s***lord, hopefully this bigot gets less work in Hollywood.

I know what you mean. I need every entertainer to share my morals too. Hilarious? Oh well. Great with a guitar? Can sing your ass off? Doesn't matter! Better think like me or I'm comin' for ya!

I mean, that's a pretty crazy strawman. Obviously no one is saying that enjoyment is entirely based on unrelated views of a person, but most artforms tend to reflect the person creating them. Comedy is especially centered around the personality of the comedian. Like, you wouldn't assume that George Carlin was a super patriotic, ultra-religious conservative, or that Seinfeld is a polite, unobservant man who hates sarcasm, or that Sarah Silverman is a super religious, prim and proper lady who despises blue humor in real life. What is especially weird about that argument is that the comments themselves are being defended as 'jokes', so the controversial statements are literally part of his work.

Anyone that thinks a comedian should have to be careful about what they say probably shouldn't even say George Carlin.

He agreed. "I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

While I think the jokes were awful, I also kinda respect the fact that when the Academy called him and asked him to apologize he was like "Nah I'm good." He already addressed this stuff. If people are still mad about it then let them be mad. He doesn't need to apologize just because they tell him to like a trained seal. And besides that, the Oscars needed him more than he needs them. Nobody wants to host this show

He literally posted about child abuse and mistreatment of his son if he were gay and you dont care about that? Gay children go through a lot as it is and public figures posting shit like this is unacceptable. Especially since there have been several cases where boys are tortured, beaten and/or murdered for being effeminate or gay.

That's a fair opinion to have if we lived in a bubble but in today's age, with influencers of all things influencing public opinion on things, you have to be aware that someone with a platform like Kevin Hart has the power to influence many of his fans' views. Homophobia is a pretty common viewpoint within black culture and the top billed black comedian sharing those views publicly doesnt help.

Yeah it's important to at least be aware that it can have an impact public opinion. It happens with all things. Hell, one of the Kardashian's was able to make the Snapchat stock drop with a single tweet earlier this year, Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey influenced a wave of anti-vaxxers, etc. Should anyone's careers be ruined because of words? I dunno, probably not. But there's a responsibility there somewhere.

I'd rather run a campaign to inform people to think for themselves and not let celebrities of all people influence them. I mean it's just really dumb to think their opinions hold more weight because you like their movies or whatever. Or they agree with other things I agree with so I must agree in everything (that's a problem with politicians as well)

Sadly I'm poor and couldn't do something like that.

Fucking romantics just had to push the center of art to the subjective

Now we cant unlink the two because all moderns think art has always been about self expression.

If only Kant knew what he would unleash

He should have foreseen twitter

Congrats Twitter mob, you got another one.

yeah his jokes and comments were inappropriate. But the guy isn't a Mike Pence-style homophobe.

The SJW justice mob always gets the not-so-bad people but doesn't do shit about the real bigots.

What does that even mean? Are you literally pulling a whataboutPence? He has faced a lot of backlash as well, FYI. And theres not much people on social media can do about an elected politician...they can complain but that doesnt mean shit.

I'll agree to disagree. I nor my family or friends let celebrities opinions alter our views but I do guess the world is full of weak minded sheep who must follow other people's lead in order to form an opinion.

That is an incredibly ignorant take. You don't just decide everything on your own. Human beings are subconsciously influenced by things around them all the time. This includes the opinions of others. It isn't about actively adopting the opinion of a celebrity. That is not how it works. It is much more subtle. The fact that you aren't aware that you are being influenced doesn't change the fact that it is happening.

Not aware they aware they are influencing me? No I'm pretty damn aware. I disagree with most of my favorite celebs on a lot of things. When I form my opinion on something I actually sit down and think about it. My opinion has been influenced more by random people online who actually take the time to civilly talk about a issue and present evidence or facts to their side.

Aside from that the basis on my opinions stems from how I was raised. My mind has been changed on some things though

Also I go out of my way to avoid paying attention to celebs outside whatever it is they do that I like. Never got the whole following them on Twitter shit
