Why is there all that empty space when you press down on the triggers until it actually clicks and you press the button?

There's a difference between pressing it down part of the way and all the way in some games.

The empty space can have a different function. Ever play Mario Sunshine? Hold lightly to move while spraying, press fully to aim.

The Steam controller has the space before the clicks as well but you can actually program the space as one function and the click as another function.
