no, this isn't about gameplay... it's about representation

I think it's great that the series does what it can to acknowledge a wide array of titles, but it's also upsetting just how many of those franchises haven't gotten a proper release in a decade or so

On the one hand, I understand fans wanting Mother 3 to be localized.

On the other hand, that game is fucking depressing to be that cute.

I see what you mean, but I don't think every franchise in SSB needs to be active. Some of them are dead and don't need any more entries, like ROB, or Wii Fit, Duck Hunt, or Earthbound. And Smash has actually saved a few series by breathing life into Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem.

Keep in mind that Nintendo's internal studios are mostly kept busy making new Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and other tentpole games that they can't just let die. They get second- and third-party studios to help out by making games for Metroid, Luigi's Mansion, Kirby, DK, Pokemon, and other franchises. All the while, Nintendo also has to invest in generating new IPs like ARMS.

My point is that they probably have limited resources that they have to balance across all their franchises as well as generate new IPs, and that means not every franchise can get a new game every few years. They could try to hire more employees and become a bigger company or contract more third-party studios to make games for their franchises, but those plans doesn't always work out well.

IMO Star Fox is in the most dire need of a good game.
