Yeah I think people were presumptuous about Chrom. The moment I tried him out, I was busting ass. He's just so fucking fast with his combos that his poor recovery doesn't even really matter. Getting gimped is the worst, sure, but it doesn't happen often if you're careful. In a lot of ways he has better recovery than Marth/Lucina because M/L don't have great horizontal recovery either

It's Little Mac all over again. In about a month people will realize that Chrom has a very low ceiling

A lot of characters with bad horizontal recovery end up doing alright. Little Mac is honestly a completely different case. His aerials are non-existent in a game where aerials are really important. Aerials take up like 90% of Smash combos. Little Mac is just like a one and done type of character and just fishes for quick kills and opponents making a shielding mistake.

Chrom on the other hand feels the fastest out of the FE reps and does Ike-like damages.

He really is nothing like Little Mac. Chrom has great aerials.

And no pro player said Little Mac was good when Smash 4 came out.

They said he was fucking trash. It was casuals who picked him.

At the beginning people thought Rosalina was top tier. And she was until she was nerfed.

That doesn't make any sense. Marth and Lucina move diagonally. Chrom can only move straight up. How on earth is Chrom's recovery better?


Ok, diagonally is a bit of a misnomer. It's like at a 70-80 degree angle than a 45 degree lol. Marth has always had poor horizontal recovery.

I can barely comprehend fighting game tiers but I remember this shit happening during the Splatoon beta with rollers lol

It's like as soon as people run into something they haven't learned how to counter yet it can't be their fault it's because the game is broken.

He still moves visibly left/right. That, and his recovery actually makes him difficult to gimp because it's swift and has a pretty big hitbox. It's loads better than Chrom's recovery, who definitely can't defend himself unless his opponent decides to approach him where Aether could KO them.

The only high-tier character with anywhere near a poor horizontal recovery is Cloud, but Cloud can zone and force approaches. Chrom can't

With the speed of all the characters in this game, Cloud doesn't zone or force approaches significantly that he outclasses Chrom. Besides, shield grabs were severely nerfed (you need to do a parry and then grab or you don't have the frames to make it true), so forcing approach doesn't mean more than letting the other guy come to you. Cloud loses in a straight up brawl, and his recovery is even worse than Chrom's because his isn't instantaneous, and he loses limit break randomly, which makes it unreliable.

You're thinking about the game too much in Smash 4 logic. Tbh at a higher level, a lot of things that worked in Smash 4 simply doesn't work in Smash U

I don't think so but I don't really remember.

They nerfed one roller, which was the Dynamo. It was considered too good of a range and melee weapon at the same time, because the fling was as strong as a bucket basically. They nerfed the range of the paint fling but I don't think they ever nerfed the roller's melee potential.

Also, pros basically don't use a roller unless it has a bitchin' sub weapon. The whole point of that weapon in a higher tier play is to spam the shit out of bombs and super weapons, because rollers can charge those things up really quick by painting empty land
