I have nothing, but a few tubes for my nebulizer. They were $35, but it magically jumped up to $45, and I couldn't buy it. And now I'm about to go back home for a month, and when I'm back there, my asthma gets so much worse, and I don't know what to do.

2018 man, every single time, it found a way to kick me down. Too poor to live I guess. Just gotta hope that I don't have asthma out in public, or that my tubes don't run out for a whole month. Insurance can go fuck itself, big pharma can go fuck itself, my life can go fuck itself, and 2018 can especially go fuck itself.

Do you have private insurance or ACA? I have private insurance and Im seriously going to consider dropping it after the new year. I have to pay $414/mo, and heres the thing: when I go to the doctor, I still get a MASSIVE bill, even though Im paying out the ass. I might go to the doctor twice a year and everyone is telling me that ACA at least doesnt financially ruin you if you need help.

People have been telling me that the mandate is apparently no longer in effect, but I cant get a straight answer out of anyone.

An albuterol inhaler? Yeah those things have skyrocketed in price for whatever reason in the last five years and insurance copays have followed suit. Its pretty scummy. Its almost gotten to ICS/maintenance inhaler levels of bad in terms of coverage and finickyness

Yeah thats usually how it goes. If youre having to use the rescue multiple times a week or for night time awakenings its a good idea to talk to your doctor about that and get on a maintenance inhaler like Breo, though they would probably jump to something like Flovent first before moving on to Breo

Yeah, I usually have breathing troubles come winter when I get sick... Been using my inhaler from last year cause I don't want to pay for a new one, though I am going to have to bite the bullet next year.

Oh its sickening, especially when the first line inhaler to try is albuterol-based inhalers. Its not like anything with the inhalers have changed in that time either. The only thing thats changed is the makers of Proair introduced their Respiclick line that makes it easier to inhale, but thats it. They do it because they know people have to pay it.

Really, my only recommendation is to try and call your doctor and have them send you in either more albuterol solutions for your nebulizer because I know at some pharmacies those are fairly inexpensive, or have them send a prescription for the Respiclick I mentioned earlier. Even though its newer, if your insurance will cover it, they have a manufacturer discount coupon that brings the price down to around $25 depending on how much the insurance pays. The only thing is the insurance policy cant be from a gofrrnment source. I can PM you the discount link with more information

That really really sucks
Have you tried shopping around? Not sure if you can use another pharmacy but I know sometimes you can get a slight decrease in price. Maybe look at goodrx.com?

The individual mandate is gone. Definitively.

Is there still a penalty on your taxes? That was always my main problem with Obamacare, to be honest. The mandate caused the price of private insurance to skyrocket. In my opinion, if I have to pay $414 every month, I should not receive hospital bills, copays, or fees for prescriptions. The prices for ALL of these things has gone up, along with the price for insurance, so that just doesnt add up.

I was under the impression that people on ACA didnt have to pay a dime, but apparently that isnt true either, from what Ive heard. Someone told me that you only have a $1 copay, but you will still get massive bills from the hospital or for a serious procedure at the doctor

You should see the ICS/LABA inhaler prices. Theyre well into the $400 range. Its nuts. And its not really the medication that drives the price. Its the method of delivery and patents around it

The average copay Ive seen this year was $25 with some going as high as $60 without anything being applied to a deductible. Its insane.
